GUELPH POLITICAST #485 – Hauser History (feat. Katherine Hauser)

Out of 27 perspective candidates for Ward 6 city councillor it came down between Katherine Hauser and Rebecca Adam, and after a show of hands vote ended in a tie, Hauser got the gig in a literal luck of the draw. It was her name that came out of that big orange box, and it’s now up to Hauser to make as big an impact she can before council rises one year from now for the next municipal election. What does she do now? Continue reading “GUELPH POLITICAST #485 – Hauser History (feat. Katherine Hauser)”

This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun

After a real August recess this year, city council – now whole again – returned to the council chambers for more hijinks starting with something we thought we had already done in July. After an impromptu planning meeting, council took part in the Committee of the Whole meeting where they covered I.T., WHMIS, and stuff that does have initials like the growing scourge of graffiti. Get all the details in this week’s recap! Continue reading “This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 16, 2025 Meeting?

It’s kind of early for the regular meeting of council for the month, but we’ve arrived here just the same. At this meeting, council will follow up on the agenda from Committee of the Whole and dive into some new appointments for a couple of advisory committees, plus some appointments of their fellow councillors. Also, look for some community recognitions, and a discussion about road maintenance standards. Let’s look at the details… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 16, 2025 Meeting?”

RECAP: City Council Meeting for September 3, 2025

Before yesterday’s Committee of the Whole, we had a city council rerun. Sort of. Addressing a procedural snafu concerning a planning project that came to council back in July, we had to go through it all over again. Was there the same result? You can click here for the amended agenda from City Hall, and you can click here for the Politico preview, and for the full recap of the meeting, check out the thread below…

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 9, 2025 Meeting?

The first planning meeting of the fall has an application for more units than have been approved all year so far, but will council be interested in chasing them given the cost? That will be one of the questions councillors will tackle in this meeting as they hold a statutory meeting on this massive new project. In terms of small moves, look out for an update to everyone’s favourite planning bylaw, and something that will be discussed in closed… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 9, 2025 Meeting?”

Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?

September is here so it’s time for the new, fully staffed city council to get back to work. As usual, the month begins with a Committee of the Whole meeting, and a slate of reports that might be described as technocratic, or perhaps even boring (if you’re being cynical) kick things off. Money matters, staff recognitions, some new affordable housing measures, and a potential new bylaw to tackle graffiti are all on the agenda for the first meeting of fall! Continue reading “Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?

Time to get back to work! For the first time in a couple of years, we actually had a whole month off in August, but now the time has come to return to the council chambers and see what trouble we can get into. So to speak. First up, a blast from the not-too-distant past, a planning project that came to council in July and was approved by council, but there was an unexpected procedural issue that must now be resolved. Details below. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?”

This Week at Council: Ward 6 is Made Whole Before Summer Vacation

This is the last council recap you’re going to read for a while, because Guelph City Council is now on summer vacation! Before that though, there’s a lot of action to review including the appointment of a new Ward 6 Councillor, which was a wild ride that came down to a draw between the two finalists. Then, at the regular meeting, there was actually a planning matter, and some more back-and-forth on downtown construction and accessibility. So for the last time, until September, here’s the recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Ward 6 is Made Whole Before Summer Vacation”
