This month’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting will be a brief one it seems. There’s only three topics on the agenda along with the usual general update from transit management including the status of the fleet’s four electric buses. Mostly, it seems like this meeting will be dealing with matters of feedback, so if you have a question or concern, reach out to a TAC member near you. In the meantime, here’s the agenda… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 19, 2023”
MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for October 17, 2023
It’s that time again for the Accessibility Advisory Committee, on schedule, almost exactly two months since the last one. For this October meeting, the AAC will talk about that special workshop that didn’t happen, new road designs, new playground designs, the accessible future of Guelph’s patios, and a special note about how the federal government undid a whole lot of good work on plastics. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on October 24?
Apparently, city council is taking Halloween off. The final meeting of October is a week early, but that fact probably hasn’t had too big of an impact on the list of items for this regular meeting of council because most of it is about what’s already been approved at Committee of the Whole earlier this month. At least one of those reports will be revisited, plus one of our local sports teams will stop by so that their championship can be celebrated. RECAP: Almost Everyone Walks Away Happy from Committee of Adjustment
Things went pretty smoothly at this month’s Committee of Adjustment meeting, and they usually do when staff recommends that almost half of the agenda be deferred. But there was some disagreement on that, and there were also some other disagreements about the direction offered by staff on some selection applications. So who walked away with all or most of what they wanted? You should find out in the recap of this month’s meeting… Continue reading “RECAP: Almost Everyone Walks Away Happy from Committee of Adjustment”

RECAP: Social Services Tries to Find a Way to Keep Sanguen Health Van Going
It’s not quite budget time yet, but there was a big budget ask at this month’s Social Services meeting at Wellington County. Staff members from the Sanguen Health Centre’s Community Health Van were special guests, and they are looking for support to keep that service going past March of next year. How the committee coped with that, and how they handled other social services business is the subject of the recap below… Continue reading “RECAP: Social Services Tries to Find a Way to Keep Sanguen Health Van Going”
GUELPH POLITICAST #392 – Caution’s Creek Part 1: The Past
This is one of those episodes that’s based on events that predate many of us that have come to call Guelph home in the last few decades. It’s also a story about land issues, and the desire to protect sensitive land from development. It’s had a lot of names over the years including the Kortright Waterfowl Park, the Niska Lands, and the Hanlon Creek Conservation Area, but the story around this property is just as complicated to sort out. Local Reactions Coming as Israel-Hamas War Intensifies
An attack against Israel’s southern district by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Saturday has lead to now four days of full-scale war in some of the worse violence seen in Israel and the occupied territories in years. Naturally, the repercussions are being felt here in Canada as members of both the Jewish and the Palestinian communities now share worry about family members in the Middle East as their seems to be no end in site for the crisis. RECAP: Heritage Guelph Concerned About Moving Old Farmhouse
The day after Thanksgiving there weren’t that many leftovers for the Heritage Guelph committee. It was mostly new business, and the biggest portion of that business was focused on the potential move of an old farmhouse on a south end property that’s ready to be redeveloped. Obviously, Heritage Guelph has some concerns, but that wasn’t the end of the discussion, which we will now cover with this meeting recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Concerned About Moving Old Farmhouse”
This Week at Council: Master Plans and Bells
The October Committee of the Whole meeting was, in part, about a bell, and the bell tolled for more participation around Guelph’s cultural and recreation activities. There was also a real bell, the old city hall bell that now has a home in the courtyard of the present city hall (pictured above). A lot of plans and master plans came home for committee approval this month, and here’s how it all went down. Continue reading “This Week at Council: Master Plans and Bells”
