It’s become a terrible and oddly familiar story in the world of junior sport: A man in authority taking advantage of underage women. It happened again earlier this month at the University of Guelph at a volleyball tournament, and after receiving reports from volunteers in attendance, Guelph Police have arrested a man who was one of the referees at the tournament and he’s facing now over a dozen charges. Monkeypox has officially landed. It had been suspected in the Montreal area along with other locations in the U.S. and Europe, but late Thursday night, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) confirmed that there are definitely two cases of the virus in the region. Although this virus is only fatal in a very small portion of cases, the idea that this could be another public health crisis on the coat tails of a global pandemic has people concerned. There’s still a pandemic going on. It might not seem like it, but there are people still catching COVID-19 and still having to self-isolate until they post a negative test result. Not a great position to find yourself in during a busy election campaign, but it’s the position that Green Party of Ontario leader and Guelph candidate Mike Schreiner finds himself in.
