The council agendas were kind of light in March, so April is appropriately busy right off the bat with some pretty big technical updates and some pretty big matters of new policy development. In terms of the technical, there’s water, sewers, and the City’s program to make residential buildings more environmentally sustainable. In terms of new business, we get back to matters of tourism, and we talk about organizing our precious lobbyists. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 26 Meeting?

We come again to the end of the month and the regular council meeting. It’s been a pretty laid back month compared to last, and this meeting’s agenda fits that theme as council will revisit the very uncontroversial Committee of the Whole agenda, and then add another matter about whether not council should support the idea of subsidizing new pipelines. Sometimes a planning meeting of city council is full of controversial applications that bring people out to delegate, and sometimes it’s just about some adjustments to planning policy. March comes in like a lamb at city council. There’s nothing terrible controversial in this month’s Committee of the Whole agenda, assuming, of course, that no one wants to start a fight about trees. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 27 Meeting?

Although we’ve technically not quite gotten to the end of the month, we’ve at least gotten to the agenda for the end of the month. At the regular council meeting on the last Tuesday in February, we will cover again all the business from Committee of the Whole and then get into new business, which involves an annual visit from someone special and some big changes to an importance shared services committee. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on February 21?

Originally, the content of this meeting was supposed to be tackled in September, which would have made it ideally timed about a little more than a week before the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Slightly less well-timed, but no less important, council will finally get together to consider matters of Indigenous reconciliation and their place in it with a very insightful and informative exercise. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the First February 14 Meeting?

Just a day after a two-day meeting between representatives from Guelph and Wellington County, and about two weeks after it was first proposed in closed session at city council, staff have generated what’s sure to be the most controversial policy of the year. The growing visibility of encampments, especially in downtown Guelph, prompted the creation of a new bylaw, and it will be debated at this meeting! City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Second February 14 Meeting?

Here’s something interesting! In what looks to be a very busy week and month for city council, it’s a chance for them to sit as a tribunal to hear a complaint, in this case a complaint concerning a development charge. Council will hear the complaint, hear the response, and then hear the counter-response from both sides before rendering a decision. It’s all the fun of a civil trial live from the council chambers!! Planning matters return on schedule for the second Tuesday of February, and there’s going to be some unusual business for this planning meeting just to keep things interesting. Council will be asked to make some decisions regarding some recent applications, they will be asked to made a decision about a new Official Plan Amendment, and then they will make a decision to keep to a previous decision.
