Guelph Police Service are investigating two additional incidents of what they’re calling hate-related graffiti. The news comes just a little over a week after it was reported that someone plastered the front door of the Beth Isaiah Synagogue on Surrey Street West with several anti-Semitic stickers, but it seems that those spreading hate around Guelph are not content with just one act of anti-Semitism. Police Investigating Graffiti at Guelph Synagogue as Hate Crime
Hate crimes are on the rise in Canada, at least according to the latest statistics from Stats Can, but you can probably see it all around, even here in good old Guelph. After repeated incidents of vandalism at the headquarters of the Guelph Black Heritage Society this summer, it seems like its time for Guelph’s Jewish community to get a taste of hate crimes as Guelph Police are now investigating an incident from last week. Vandalism Hits Advocacy Groups Around the Region
The annual confluence of June festivities including Pride Month, National Indigenous History Month and Juneteenth make this month a cause for joy and excitement, but it also seems like a cause for consternation. A recent round of vandalism in the area has target Pride flags, Indigenous groups, and a local Black History landmark, and that’s creating concerns in communities that should be celebrating. Wellington County Denounces “Disturbing” TikTok Video
The cold-blooded attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario has released an outpouring of love and support for Muslim friends and neighbours across the province, but it has also released a new wave of hate that’s not dissimilar to what caused the Afzaal and Salman family to be targeted in the first plan. Community Responds to Pride Flag Ripped Down at Guelph School
It’s Pride Month, and that means 30 days of celebration and recognition for the members of our community who identify as LGBTQ+. So the rainbow flags are flying on flag poles all around town, but it seems like there are people in Guelph who cannot actually take any pride in Pride.
