This Week at Council: Renoviction and Real Estate

Another Committee of the Whole meeting, but this one came with a little more variety if you have no special interest in downtown renewal. Bu if you do, say, have an interest in crafting a new bylaw to prevent so-called renovictions, or perhaps an issue with how much affordable housing is getting built in the city, then this recap might be of some interest to you. All that, plus a financial update and some audit results too. Continue reading “This Week at Council: Renoviction and Real Estate”

RECAP: Transit Breaks Record for One-Week Ridership, TAC Hears

Last week, Guelph Transit broke the record for the most rides in one week, over 200,000. So if the buses felt more fuller than usual, even by September standards, you were probably right. That’s good transit news, and so is the first three weeks of expanded on-demand Sunday service, which is growing every week apparently. For the rest of the good and mixed news about transit business, consult this recap of September’s Transit Advisory Committee! Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 17, 2024 Meeting?

It’s another one of those times when we’re getting two Committees of the Whole in the same month (is that the proper pluralisation?). At this second committee meeting, there’s an audit of the City’s bid to electrify the transit fleet, an update about the fiscal 2024 finances, and, perhaps most importantly, a discussion about developing a renoviction bylaw and a scan of the City of Guelph’s efforts to create more affordable housing. That’s one of the nuggets from this recent meting of Guelph’s transit advisory board who met in the newly renovated meeting room at Transit’s head office on Watson Road. What other news was there from these shiny new digs? Check out the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: TAC Checks Out Renovated Digs at Transit HQ”

RECAP: The AAC Chooses a Chime and Finds Common Ground on Intersectionality

The Accessibility Advisory Committee spent a great deal of their June meeting talking about what they mean when it comes to intersectionality, and how best City of Guelph staff can monitor that. Tough questions, and they sort of got an answer before proceeding to a decision about that new Transit chime, and then looking at a new trail in the north end, and a pedestrian bridge just a little down the road from there. Here’s the recap…. Continue reading “RECAP: The AAC Chooses a Chime and Finds Common Ground on Intersectionality”
