This Month at Council: Tech Trouble, Bridge Debate, Water Plan Updates

If nothing else this month, Guelph is now officially a bird city, and we now sleep under the wings of our official bird, the Black-capped Chickadee, which was chosen by popular demand. At least that part went right because this month council had its first serious tech-glitch of these post-pandemic times. Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 4 Meeting?

In the last Committee of the Whole meeting of this term, there will be a variety of different reports to chew on from a surprising development with council’s regular schedule next term to a slate of new motions from the mayor to fight issues around mental health and homelessness. With this being National Indigenous History Month it seems appropriate to look at how our local government is adapting to make Indigenous communities a more active part of governance at City Hall. How can we acknowledge the history of the land and then refuse to give the traditional landholders more of a say in what happens upon it?
