The City of Guelph, and it’s various partners and agencies, put out a lot of information on a weekly basis, and while it all ends up on the City’s website somewhere, wouldn’t it be easier to just scroll through it all on one easy-to-read article on Guelph Politico here…? GUELPH POLITICAST #428 – The S#!t Disturber (feat. Mike Sullivan)
What could have been a small one-day story about disagreements around the table at Stratford city council has become emblematic of a bigger issue. Aside from the fine line between criticism of our civic leaders and outright threatening behaviour, there’s also a question about whether their mayor and council are being as open and transparent as it should be, and one man – famously – has his doubts. This Week at Council: Tiny Homes, Tiny Progress
With council wrapping up for the summer it shouldn’t be surprising that we’ve come back around to one of the biggest ongoing challenges: Creating more housing. More specifically, in this case, we’re looking at the creation of a tiny home encampment somewhere in the city. RECAP: Police Board Talks Crime Stoppers and Yippies
At the last meeting before rising for the rest of summer, the Guelph Police Services Board heard from a partner in crime fighting. The program co-ordinator from Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington came by in order to deliver the annual report, and then Chief Gord Cobey got into the latest from his desk including the Youth in Policing Program, which has the not very police-sounding code name “Yippy”. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Police Board Talks Crime Stoppers and Yippies”
RECAP: Mayor Guthrie Answers Tough Questions at Breezy Breakfast
The Breezy Breakfast crowd was probably not going to the most friendly of audiences for Mayor Cam Guthrie, but it was hardly like he was walking into the lion’s den Thursday morning either. The mayor took questions for an hour on a whole host of topics from Strong Mayor Powers to the City budget and from bicentennial concerns to making the OR Lands a national park. Check out the full recap below… Continue reading “RECAP: Mayor Guthrie Answers Tough Questions at Breezy Breakfast”
GUELPH POLITICAST #427 – The Squeeze
The housing and affordability issues are massive, and to think that one action at one level of government is going to have a measurable impact is not understand that. This week at city hall, Guelph council will talk about proceeding with a tiny homes encampment, but that’s one finger in one hole of a dam that needs a lot of repairs. MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Police Services Board for July 18, 2024
July’s meeting of the Guelph Police Services Board promises to be relatively light compared to the last few months (or for the months to come for that matter). Still, if you’re interested in crime busting matters beyond the role of the police, this should be a compelling meeting with a special guest appearance, and there also might be some interesting developments from the Chief’s report. Here’s the deal… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Police Services Board for July 18, 2024”
