The inaugural meeting of the new council term will be a largely ceremonial affair, but come on out and see the new kids in their first official meeting and hear the aspirational words of the mayor before the real sausage making of local governance begins!! City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Last Meeting of the Term?
In this meeting we say “goodbye, farewell, and amen” to this term of council in the ceremonial final meeting. Before the new council takes over on November 15, the current council, especially the ones who won’t be returning, will say so long to the newly renovated council chambers and leave with their memories and, hopefully, a certain sense of job satisfaction. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Special November 1 Meeting?
We’re back! Before the new council is sworn in in mid-November, we get two more council meetings to bookend your All Saints’ Day activities. For the morning, it’s a question of heritage: Will council re-commit to the decision they made in July about the demolition of a heritage home to make way for 18 new affordable units? The answer, and the circumstances, might surprise you. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Special November 1 Meeting?”
City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 14 Meeting?
It feels like we just got back to council business, and now it’s going back on break! In this second of two meetings for this September, it will be a pretty laid back agenda for the most part, recognizing staff members’ accomplishments, and then we’re talking about wasteful future, which will hopefully result in less waste. Enjoy the council chambers while you can because we won’t be back till November! Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 14 Meeting?”
City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 12 Meeting?
After the usual summer vacation, Guelph City Council is back for the first of the two meetings, the last two council meetings before October’s municipal election. This one is the planning meeting, at home in its usual (for now) spot in the second Monday of the month. This meeting though, as the last planning meeting of the term, will be particular heavy with some very big decisions that will shape or re-shape the south end especially. Enjoy it while it lasts, because this is the last city council meeting before everyone breaks for summer vacation (and the AMO conference in August). City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 13 Meeting?
A very busy week at city council comes to an end with the third of three meetings, each of them dealing with some essential planning matters. In this last one, there will be some heritage friction, and the last item needing discussion from the aborted June planning meeting, but the biggest bit will be the latest changes to the wholesale re-evaluation of the comprehensive zoning bylaw! City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 11 Planning Meeting?
Hopefully July’s planning meeting will flow much more smoothly technology-wise speaking, but this month there are actually two different planning meetings. With a couple of items reserved two days after this one for Wednesday’s meeting, council will tackle a full slate of planning meeting items – applications and decisions – at this second of two meetings on July 11. Have all the concerns and problems been answered? Is the plan “future ready” enough for council’s high standards? All questions will be answered in a special meeting of council. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 11 Special Meeting?”
Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 4 Meeting?
In the last Committee of the Whole meeting of this term, there will be a variety of different reports to chew on from a surprising development with council’s regular schedule next term to a slate of new motions from the mayor to fight issues around mental health and homelessness. There will also be some staff recognitions, a closed meeting, and maybe a few surprises(?). Can confirm two out of three of those anyway.
