Come on down to 1 Carden Street on Tuesday November 15 and be one of the first to see the new city council in action! The inaugural meeting of the new council term will be a largely ceremonial affair, but come on out and see the new kids in their first official meeting and hear the aspirational words of the mayor before the real sausage making of local governance begins!!
NOTE #1: Because this is a ceremonial meeting with no reports or recommendations on the agenda, there will be no opportunity to hear from delegates.
NOTE #2: The meeting will be the open to the public, but if you would like to follow it from home, you will still be live-stream the meeting on the City of Guelph’s website here.
The Inaugural Ceremony, 6:30 pm – City Clerk Stephen O’Brien will swear in the new mayor, Cam Guthrie, and the 12 new city councillors: Phil Allt, Christine Billings, Linda Busuttil, Leanne Caron, Erin Caton, Ken Yee Chew, Cathy Downer, Dan Gibson, Rodrigo Goller, Carly Klassen, Dominique O’Rourke, and Michele Richardson. After that, Gutrie will give the mayor’s inaugural address followed by a reception in the Galleria and, presumably, some light snacks.
Council Workshop, 9:30 am – O’Brien will lead the new council through important, need-to-know legislation and policy like the Code of Conduct, conflicts of interest, the role of the integrity commissioner, the Procedural Bylaw, and when council needs to discuss some things in closed session. After that, the new council will have a mock meeting to get a handle on the patter and procedure of a council session, and the tech they use.
