This month’s planning meeting will give council some post-Thanksgiving work to do in the form of a couple of small development projects that aren’t based around the south end, and some cultural heritage insight for the local history nerds out there. It’s unlikely to be the most intense planning meeting this year, but it will still be very busy.

October’s Committee of the Whole delivers a very busy Infrastructure, Development and Enterprise Services agenda with two of the biggest infrastructure projects coming down in the not-too-distant future. There’s also some other City business about the sign bylaw and the external auditor, but really, we’re here to talk about the library and the rec centre. This Monday was supposed to be an off-night for city council, but at almost literally the eleventh hour, Mayor Cam Guthrie will bring council together to decide if there will be an immediate future for the Downtown Dining District after Monday night. Mayor Cam Guthrie called an emergency meeting of city council for Monday at 6 pm to discuss extending the end date for the Downtown Dining District. The district is currently schedule to close on Monday, but an open letter from the people running expanded patio service there threatened immediate job losses if they’re not allowed to continue for a few more weeks.
