So here we are, another Federal campaign. This blog started with a Federal election, the 2008 by-election to replace Brenda Chamberlain as Member of Parliament for Guelph, and that became the full-blown 2008 Federal Election exactly one day before it was over. We made it though 2011, after which we were assured thanks to a majority for the Conservatives that we’d have a four years till the next one. Kovach Confirmed as the Conservative Candidate for Guelph

In a non-upset, unsurprising move, the Guelph Electoral District Association (EDA) of the Conservative Party of Canada has announced that Gloria Kovach has been acclaimed as the party’s candidate for the Guelph riding in the upcoming Federal Election. The Conservatives are the last major party in the Royal City to announced their candidate for the election, which is expected to be called this fall for October 19. PRESS RELEASE – Gord Miller Running for Green Party Nomination

Former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario Gord Miller is entering federal politics, and running to represent the Royal City. Former Enviro Commish of Ontario Miller Making Big Political Move

A curious press release showed up this morning, an invitation to a press event where in Gord Miller, former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, will be announcing “his plan to run in the upcoming federal election in the riding of Guelph.” Specifically? Well, if he’s going to be a major party candidate, he has one of two choices, and considering his career path, it should be fairly obvious what colour banner he’ll be waving come the fall. They may not have been first, but many eyes were on the Liberal Party’s Guelph membership to see who they would be nominating to succeed Frank Valeriote as their nominee in Guelph. Three people submitted their names for the chance to run for the Liberals in this fall’s federal election. By the time it was all said and done, former Guelph Chamber of Commerce President Lloyd Longfield came out on top, but if there was a unifying tone amongst all the potential Liberal nominees it was that they’re very convinced that Stephen Harper is going down this October. Andrew Seagram Acclaimed as NDP Candidate for Guelph in #elxn42

The local New Democrats were the first out of the gate last night in naming their candidate for this October’s Federal Election. In the now-open riding of Guelph, the stakes will be high here for the implications of the national race along with choosing who will represent us, and the NDP are hoping Royal City voters are going to choose Andrew Seagram. Burcher to Official Launch Liberal Nomination Bid

Forget the Federal Election coming – eventually – later this year, the real contest is going on now is the race to see who will become the new Liberal candidate in Guelph after Frank Valeriote announced his retirement last fall. Former Ward 5 councillor Lise Burcher will officially launch her campaign tonight at the Green Room at the Bookshelf.
