GUELPH POLITICAST #398 – Doctors Wanted

By the numbers $43,335 per year for two years is probably the smallest ask of this budget cycle, but the work that money will fund is actually pretty important: Attracting new doctors to Guelph and Wellington. For many of us that live here, Guelph is a destination that sells itself, but the competition for a small number of new doctors is fierce and Guelph-Wellington is one of the last municipalities to have a formal plan to get them. Is it too late for us to get in the game? Continue reading “GUELPH POLITICAST #398 – Doctors Wanted”

MEETING PREVIEW: Grand River Conservation Membership Meeting for November 24, 2023

It’s been a busy couple of months at membership board of the Grand River Conservation Authority, so by comparison November’s meeting is going to be a little bit lighter. (Also, the annual general meeting is next month so it’s a small respite.) For this meeting there’s the usual financial updates, some tenders to approve, plus some human resources policies to update, but the big thing, again, has to do with outdoor education. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the November 22 Meeting?

Surprise! It’s an additional meeting of city council that you didn’t know was going to happen when the month began. Per the request of council themselves, staff have prepared a list of recommendations about further cuts to the 2024-2027 multiyear budget to get the tax burden further down and thus get closer to something more affordable for Guelph residents. Still, will there be an appetite to enact any of the options? Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the November 22 Meeting?”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on November 28?

This last meeting of the month is not the last meeting of the month in November. No, after this meeting there’s still the multiyear budget decision meeting the very next day, but on this night, there’s some relatively lighter matters to consider. Among them are the ratification of this month’s Committee of the Whole agenda, some new appointments and a couple of new motions from members of council.
