Abortion Bus Ads Going Back to City Committee for Hearing
Just when you thought you were out, they pull you back in… Just over two years after the Ontario Superior Court of Justice said that the City of Guelph didn’t offer a good enough justification for removing three anti-abortion bus ads from Guelph Transit vehicles, the same group is back with a complaint about the City’s refusal to post a new ad. A meeting of the Advertising Review Panel next Friday will determine what happens next.

Guelph Gets $13.5 Million for New Main Library Building
One could make an inappropriate joke about a government funding announcement in front of a giant hole in the ground, but Baker Street was only filled with the laughter that comes from joy on Monday morning. The mood was celebratory at the site of the Baker District Redevelopment, future home of Guelph’s 88,000 square-foot new main library building, which just got easier to build with a $13.5 million cheque from the federal government. Dolime Development Open to Suggestions at First Look Open House
In the west end of Guelph you will find the newest part of town, 230 acres of land sitting on top of about 11 million litres of precious ground water. Presently, this land is still the Dolime Quarry, but in the years to come it will be a new subdivision. So with development plans currently in the works, the land’s owner, River Valley Developments, opened up the doors for the first time for public input. Guelph Fire Chief Really, Really Wants You to Have a Working Smoke Detector
It’s been a busy week for the Guelph Fire Department with four fires in as many days, and three of them in a nearly 24-hour period at the beginning of the week. Calandra Touts Guelph Housing Success with Novelty Cheque (But Real Money)
Pomp was in the air of the courtyard at Guelph City Hall Thursday morning. The special guest was Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Paul Calandra, and the order to the day was celebrating Guelph’s success on housing starts in 2023. The what was a giant novelty cheque, a symbol of the very real award for Guelph starting construction on 1,287 new housing units last year, nearly $4.7 million in “reward” money!
