RECAP: Consultants Lay Out a Plan to Promote the New Library for the Board

It was a good day for the Guelph Public Library, and not just because today was the day for the monthly Board of Directors meeting. After the announcement Monday morning that the new library project was getting some cash from the federal government, the board sat down to talk to a consultant about how they were going to sell it. In other matters they talked about cyber security, operating variances, and the status of the present main library. Let’s recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Consultants Lay Out a Plan to Promote the New Library for the Board”

RECAP: Cobey Tells Police Board They’re Building to Meet New Challenges

This month’s meeting of the Guelph Police Services Board seemed a bit reactionary to recent events. You probably saw the news last week that police made a $5 million drug bust that also involved some illegal firearms, and it’s that second part that’s becoming more of a concern, and you will read why in the recap. In terms of good news, Chief Gord Cobey thinks that Guelph Police are rising to the occasion. Check out the recap for more below… Continue reading “RECAP: Cobey Tells Police Board They’re Building to Meet New Challenges”

RECAP: Public Health Hears a Warning of Measles, and Cannabis Misinformation

March came in like a lion at the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Board of Health meeting, at least if you’re concerned about the return of measles to the infectious disease discourse. Dr. Nicola Mercer had some reassuring words about vaccinations and measles, and then there were some active discussions about TB and some important gaps in the community knowledge about the effect of cannabis use. Let’s dig into the recap of this month’s meeting… Continue reading “RECAP: Public Health Hears a Warning of Measles, and Cannabis Misinformation”

RECAP: Heritage Guelph Approves New Permits and New Designation

Sometimes there just isn’t a lot for Heritage Guelph to disagree on. It wasn’t a packed agenda to begin with, but it didn’t even take the committee an hour to hear the five items listed and render verdicts on all of them. There were a couple of heritage permits, a new heritage designation report, a new designation sent to council for final approval. Let’s look at the relatively brief recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Approves New Permits and New Designation”

RECAP: Library Board Says Goodbye to CEO, and Hello to Lengthy In-Camera Session

It was a special occasion at the Guelph Public Library Board of Directors. That’s not to say that every meeting of the board isn’t a special occasion, but this board meeting marked the last one for outgoing CEO Steve Kraft who’s retiring this week after 41 years at the Guelph Public Library. And what do you get for the man who has everything? How about more than two hours in-camera to talk about confidential matters?! Here’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Library Board Says Goodbye to CEO, and Hello to Lengthy In-Camera Session”

RECAP: Accessibility Committee Has to Punt Election Decision Due to Packed Agenda

The first Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of the year was packed! Even more packed than usual. Good thing then that one of the things discussed was the use of consent agenda items to try and streamline things, but the biggest thing on this agenda, the item that was bound to be the most contentious and controversial, ended up having to be postponed when the committee ran out time. So how did it all shake out? Here’s the recap!! Continue reading “RECAP: Accessibility Committee Has to Punt Election Decision Due to Packed Agenda”

RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Takes a Look at Itself This Month

This month’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting wasn’t focused so much on the functioning of transit as it was focused on the function of the committee itself. The special guest this month was Dylan McMahon from the clerks’ office who led the committee through a familiar exercise to determine where they fall in the new framework for Advisory Committees of Council. So let’s dive into the recap for this one… Continue reading “RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Takes a Look at Itself This Month”

That’s an interesting presentation and worth reviewing, and there will be some news at the end about policing downtown.
