Guelph General Restricts Visitors While Dr. Moore Pulls Out the Stops

Just a few days before Christmas, the Guelph General Hospital announced Tuesday that the rapid spread of the Omicron variant is forcing them to tighten the rules around visitors. As of Thursday, all hospital patients will only be allowed one visitor for the duration of their stay, and for anyone that doesn’t wish to be a COVID patient in the hospital, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore says he’s trying to help you get a booster. Public Health Says Everyone That Can Work From Home, Now Needs to Work From Home

Just a day after the Government of Ontario announced that they’re putting a rush on boosters and capping attendance at large venues, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health announced that they were going further with new COVID precautions. By order of Medical Officer of Health Dr. Nicola Mercer, starting Monday, anyone that can work from home needs to start working from home as the effort to slow Omicron ramps up. In the Face of Omicron, Guelph Cancels the End of the State of Emergency

For the last few weeks, there’s been an air of anticipation that the City of Guelph might soon emerge from the state of emergency initiated in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Blame Omicron, but the end of the state of emergency has been indefinitely postponed as the City aims to “mobilize City resources as needed” in order to stay on top of this latest COVID-19 variant. As Omicron Arrives in Guelph, Ontario Changes Their Pandemic Plans

For two weeks, we’ve watched the global spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant and wondered when it would be detected here. Wonder no longer. On Friday, Wellington-Dufferin-Gulph Public Health announced that they’ve detected the first local case of Omicron locally. Ontario Authorizes Booster Shots for People Age 50-Plus

With Omicron nipping at our heels, the Government of Ontario announced on Thursday that eligibility for third shots, the booster dose, of the COVID-19 vaccine for people age 50 and over will be starting on Monday December 13. While the full effects of the new variant, both in terms of severity and contagiousness, are not yet known, the Chief Medical Officer of Health is recommending boosters to help build immunity just in case. It’s the moment many people have been waiting for, the arrival of the child-sized doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines. In a quick media statement Tuesday evening, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health announced that they’ve received their first doses of the vaccine meant for kids, and they will start giving them out on Thursday. Kids Could Be Getting COVID Shots By End of Next Week Pending Approval

The scuttlebutt is that Health Canada will be approving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for kids between the ages of 5 and 11 on Friday. According to Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph’s Medical Officer of Health on Thursday, public health is ready to roll out vaccines for children once the word is given, and they’re anticipating that the first doses of vaccine will be handed out at the end of next week.
