This month’s Guelph Police Services Board starting with some tech issues. Maybe everyone was just rusty after taking last month off… Anyway, there was a lot of ground to cover with this agenda including an update about the impact of increased staff downtown, some notes about public safety in police pursuits, and a new video to promote the service just in time for Police Week. Let’s recap the meeting… Continue reading “RECAP: Police Board Hears That Downtown Staffing is Working”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on May 22?
Been a while since we’ve had a workshop… So what’s the focus of this one? The future! More specifically though the future of downtown. Guelph’s main drag in the core will be getting some work done in the next decade, and if we’re working on all the stuff under the road, we can take the time to work on some stuff on top of the road, you know, give Wyndham Street a face lift. But what will it’s new face look like? Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on May 22?”
This Week at Council: Transit Talk and a New Committee is Born
Council business wrapped up for the month of February with a meeting that covered a variety of topics, and included some special guests. A follow-up delegation about transit in St. George’s Square led to a robust conversation about the subject from a variety of points of view, and then council made some appointments, and talked about pretty big re-organization for a major committee that will have more direct City involvement now. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Transit Talk and a New Committee is Born”
GUELPH POLITICAST #408 – Greg Dorval Has Things to Say

You see this in just about every news story, “person X is experiencing issue A”; it’s a way of personalizing the issue and making it relatable to the audience, and it’s one of the reasons why the homelessness crisis is so unrelatable. That’s where Greg Dorval entered the picture a few weeks ago. Continue reading “GUELPH POLITICAST #408 – Greg Dorval Has Things to Say”

Although we’ve technically not quite gotten to the end of the month, we’ve at least gotten to the agenda for the end of the month. All that and some recognitions and in-camera stuff too! Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 27 Meeting?”
This Week at Council: Downtown Renewal, Recycling Revamp
After a pretty light January, the first week of February brought a couple of packed agendas to the council’s agenda management software on their iPads. First, Committee of the Whole contained an unexpected report about the Housing Accelerator Funds, plus some grand plans about downtown. Also, there was a field trip to the east end of town for a special council workshop about the proverbial Cadillac of City services: waste management.
