Delayed one year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, staff from Wellington County and the Guelph-Wellington Task Force for Poverty Elimination presented the results from the latest Point in Time Count on Wednesday. Conducted over two days last October, the Point in Time Count gives the community a snap shot of homelessness in our area, and despite the challenges of the pandemic, the count is heading in the right direction. Guelph’s Housing Advocates Lay Out the Pre-Election Stakes in Town Hall
There’s a provincial election coming this spring. You may be aware of that, but the Guelph-Wellington Coalition for Social Justice is definitely aware of it, and on Wednesday night they launched a series of events meant to prep the electorate by talking about what are likely to be some of the biggest issues of the 2022 Provincial Election. GUELPH POLITICAST #239 – On COVID-19 and Local Poverty
Eliminating poverty has been made more difficult because of the COVID-19 pandemic due to the increased number of people who have found themselves jobless, and the difficulty in delivering services to people when physical distancing being a priority. But no matter how complicated you think your life is now because of the pandemic, it’s made the life and routine of people living in poverty in Guelph almost twice as hard.
