MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for November 16, 2023

November’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting will look to the future. That means looking at the budget and some of the best laid plans in the 10-year route and schedule strategy that are now delayed, and that also means looking at potential changes to a south end bus route. That’s under new business, and aside from then there’s also the usual business like the monthly update from staff and rider feedback. MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for November 13, 2023

November’s meeting of Heritage Guelph will see a lot of movement on the preservation of location heritage, which is good because we’re now almost one year into the two year project to save listed properties thanks to Bill 23. There are three new designations, and one designation in progress on this agenda, plus an unusual situation around site planning near a heritage conservation district. RECAP: Library Board Spends Most of It’s Meeting In-Camera

The Devil’s night was in the details at the monthly meeting of the Guelph Public Library Board of Directors on Monday evening, and many of the details were behind the closed doors of the in-camera portion of that meeting. What was discussed in their closed session involved a report about the library as a safe space and the future self-evaluation of the board. For everything else, there’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Library Board Spends Most of It’s Meeting In-Camera”

MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for October 30, 2023

It’s Devils Night, and this year the Devil’s business seems to involve the monthly board of directors meeting of the Guelph Public Library. Plus, what issues are top of mind for library advocacy? Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for October 30, 2023”

RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Talks About Messaging

The agenda for this month’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting was deceptively simple, just three things on the docket, but sometimes these simple meetings lead to the most interesting conversations. On Thursday evening, TAC talked about the air filtration on buses, the need for more outreach about how transit works and where things stand on a couple of different ongoing projects (wasn’t there supposed to be new shelters at Guelph Central Station this summer?). Learn more in the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Talks About Messaging”

RECAP: Police Board Approves Budget With Added IMPACT

With today’s meeting, the Guelph Police Services Board officially sent the 2024-2027 police budget to city council for further examination starting in a few weeks. The only big change is additional funds for the IMPACT program that will cover the cost of a social worker in downtown Guelph along with an additional downtown police officer. MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Police Services Board for October 19, 2023

Wait a minute! Didn’t we have a Guelph Police Services Board meeting once already this month?! Well, technically, that was the slightly delayed September meeting, so this is the “real” meeting for October, and it will be a relatively brief one at that. On this agenda, there’s a couple of the usual reports, and there’s also the final passage of the operating budget for the Guelph Police until 2027 before it goes on for final, final approval at city council. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Police Services Board for October 19, 2023”

MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 19, 2023

This month’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting will be a brief one it seems. There’s only three topics on the agenda along with the usual general update from transit management including the status of the fleet’s four electric buses. Mostly, it seems like this meeting will be dealing with matters of feedback, so if you have a question or concern, reach out to a TAC member near you. In the meantime, here’s the agenda… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 19, 2023”

MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for October 17, 2023

It’s that time again for the Accessibility Advisory Committee, on schedule, almost exactly two months since the last one. For this October meeting, the AAC will talk about that special workshop that didn’t happen, new road designs, new playground designs, the accessible future of Guelph’s patios, and a special note about how the federal government undid a whole lot of good work on plastics. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for October 17, 2023”

RECAP: Heritage Guelph Concerned About Moving Old Farmhouse

The day after Thanksgiving there weren’t that many leftovers for the Heritage Guelph committee. It was mostly new business, and the biggest portion of that business was focused on the potential move of an old farmhouse on a south end property that’s ready to be redeveloped. Obviously, Heritage Guelph has some concerns, but that wasn’t the end of the discussion, which we will now cover with this meeting recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Concerned About Moving Old Farmhouse”
