MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for January 29, 2024

It’s been almost two months since we’ve gotten together for a Guelph Public Library Board of Directors meeting. As we end the first month of the new year, the board will spend their first meeting of 2024 catching up on what’s been happening with the new library and the fundraising for it, and they will also look ahead to what business the library will get up to this year, and what roles the board members are going to fill. MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for January 29, 2024

Two Heritage Guelph meetings in the same month? What a treat! This one will focus on one of the two ongoing Heritage Conservation District studies happening now at the city, the one that’s focused on Downtown. Once again, the heritage committee will be asked to bring their discerning eye to the plan so far, including the proposed boundaries for the exact area of the district. MEETING PREVIEW: Grand River Conservation Membership Meeting for January 26, 2024

There’s no January chill at the Grand River Conservation Authority, and this month there’s a lot of end of the year/beginning of the year business to get to including, perhaps most importantly, the budget. The board will take their second crack at the budget for 2024 before it goes on for final passage next month, and the municipalities they represent will find out how much it will cost. MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for January 18, 2024

It’s been a while since we last had a Transit Advisory Committee meeting so welcome back to all the transit fans and supporters out there. A lot has been happening even without a monthly meeting, so there’s a lot to discuss including the fallout of council’s budget deliberations, improvements to Guelph Central Station, ridership concerns, and a recent road trip for Guelph’s now famous electric bus! RECAP: The Accessibility Committee Lands on a Direction for 2026 Voting Methods

The last meeting of 2023 went to the Accessibility Advisory Committee, who had a lot business to take care before the holiday break. The big piece is that after months of back and forth between staff and committee, we finally have a direction for alternative voting methods for the 2026 municipal election. MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for December 19, 2023

There’s one more meeting before the holiday break, and it belongs to the Accessibility Advisory Committee. It’s been a busy year for the AAC, and  much of this meeting will cover business that’s been covered at other points this year including the very contentious topic of voting options for the 2026 Municipal Election. RECAP: Library Board Lays Out Its Fundraising Plans

In this final Guelph Public Library Board of Directors meeting of the year [shocked emoji face], we learned a lot about the planned fundraising efforts for the new main library and that project so far is looking pretty good! A special guest outlined the plans plus how and when all us regular folk might be able to join in the efforts. MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for November 27, 2023

The last Guelph Public Library Board of Directors meeting of the year will look to the future, short and long-term. As 2023 comes to an end, the year that ground was finally broken on the new main library, the board will look at how they’re going to help fundraise for it. That’s the long-term, but the short-term talk will focus on setting the table for 2024 and what the staff and board hope to focus on in the new year. RECAP: Transit Committee Learns About Budget Impact and 2024

The last Transit Advisory Committee meeting of the year had a lot of ground to cover, especially with the 2024-2027 multiyear budget in progress. RECAP: Heritage Guelph Cranks Out Several Designation, and Are Looking for More

November’s Heritage Guelph meeting was largely straightforward, but at least three more designations are on their way to council for final approval at some point in the future, and now there are a couple of more items are on the drawing board, But as we reach the end of 2023 it seems like heritage staff are running our of work, which is why they queued up the committee to start thinking about 2024.
