For this May meeting of Committee of the Whole, there are money matters on the agenda, and some administrative stuff for the coming election. It’s a good time for both these topics considering that Monday May 2 is also the official kick-off of Municipal Election season, the first day that people can file their nomination papers. It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve had a nice, friendly town hall with a pair of the ward councillors. If you’ve been missing that interaction, Tuesday night was the perfect night for a little back and forth between council reps and constituents, especially if you live in Ward 5, are interested in Ward 5, or are interested in city planning matters. The fate of a hotel property in the south end will be decided, and so will the heritage quality of an old farmhouse on York Road. In terms of new developments, after years of planning, we finally have a plan for an empty stretch north of Arkell that’s been in the works for a long time now.
