It’s the end of another month of city council meetings, and there was a lot of ground covered with a couple of big meetings. We took one step closed to getting some supportive housing in the city, we got at least one firm decision about what the 2022 election will look like, and there was some interestingly wonkish discussion about investing policy. At Monday’s Committee of the Whole meeting members of city council will receive another update about the region’s COVID-19 response, and that includes vaccine distribution. While there’s been a lot of talk about issues with supply, Committee will hear that Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph is actually doing better than Ontario and Canada at getting shots into arms. This is 2021, which means in less than two years we’re going to have to go to the polls and vote for city council again. Before that happens, we have to decide how we’re going to vote. There will continue to be an option to vote in-person, but what about options to vote from home given current events. What are we going to do when we go to the polls in 2022? The State of the City address is an annual event hosted by the Guelph Chamber of Commerce. It’s part political with a speech from the mayor, and it’s part networking and promotion for Chamber members, a chance for everyone to get together face-to-face. But this is 2021.
