RECAP: Heritage Guelph Looks at OR Land Contamination and Next Designation

Two more properties are now on their way to city council for final approvals, but one property in the east end was de-listed from the heritage registry after being unable to put a birth date on an old barn, and there are some doings on the Ontario Reformatory Lands that might mean at least one building gets torn down. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the April 18 Meeting?

This month’s planning meeting, again delayed a week because of a special occasion, will be a pretty big one. It’s not because of the heritage designation or the request for a sign bylaw variance, but because after four years of work the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw is finally ready for approval. It’s been nearly 30 years since this piece of regulation has been formally updated, and this month, we have arrived at the end. RECAP: Heritage Guelph Chooses What Heritage Properties They Want to Save (First?)

This month’s Heritage Guelph meeting gained some forward momentum on the heritage planning work plan in the City’s 1,700 designation eligible properties now paired down to an opening line-up of 10 for staff to start with. In other news, the committee sent the heritage designation for 65 Delhi Street to council while also looking at a designation for the Albion, which, during the meeting, was given an all-new nickname it’s apparently had all this time. RECAP: Social Services Gets A Look at the Future of 65 Delhi Street

January’s Social Service committee meeting at the County of Wellington covered a lot of ground, but the most ground was saved for a sneak peak at the redevelopment of 65 Delhi Street into Guelph’s latest transition and supportive housing project. Along with that, the committee also heard about the paramedic response to last month’s winter storm, changes coming in the 2023 budget, and childcare user fees! This month’s Social Services Committee meeting at Wellington County, the first for 2023, looks to be very informative indeed. There will be an update about a key housing project, some 2023 budget talk, an update about the changing costs of childcare, and a report about last month’s holiday winter storm. This Month at Council Part 1: Trees, Signs, and More Transitional Housing

Guelph City Council tackled a very busy agenda before the summer break. The Committee of the Whole meeting was a marathon affair with topics about trees, the new sign bylaw, and speed limits. Then, at the planning meeting, a decision was reached about a new supportive housing project while there were a lot of questions about the latest Metalworks addition.
