It’s another one of those times when we’re getting two Committees of the Whole in the same month (is that the proper pluralisation?). At this second committee meeting, there’s an audit of the City’s bid to electrify the transit fleet, an update about the fiscal 2024 finances, and, perhaps most importantly, a discussion about developing a renoviction bylaw and a scan of the City of Guelph’s efforts to create more affordable housing. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2024 Meeting?
The first planning meeting of the fall will have something for everyone, a new project that’s bound to be controversial, a decision on a project that was sort of controversial a few months ago, a new heritage designation, and some pruning to the City of Guelph’s new Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw. Are these the best laid plans, or will some delegates and council members have other ideas? Let’s take a look… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2024 Meeting?”
Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 4, 2024 Meeting?
Committee of the Whole is back to start the last third of the year with a jam-packed agenda. A council meeting in August?! Why yes, and not just one. So who will be the new top of the administrative pile at city hall? Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the August 22 Meeting?”
City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 23 Meeting?
One more meeting before council takes the rest of the summer off, and in the best tradition of the last day before summer vacation, it looks like a pretty light agenda. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 16 Meeting?
To this ongoing debate in our community that started with some discussions around the council table almost one-year ago, an ending. Since February, Mayor Cam Guthrie has been working hard to establish a Guelph version of A Better Tent City, and those efforts seem to have fallen on the square shoulders of the Guelph Tiny Home Coalition. They’ve already taken this to Wellington County, but now it comes back to our own council. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 16 Meeting?”

A lot of municipal policy is going to come to a head at July’s Committee of the Whole meeting. From demolition by neglect to light pollution to lobbying, there’s a lot to cover in what is appropriately the mid-season finale of the 2024 year at council, and that includes the biggest issue of all, the housing crisis. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the June 25 Shareholder Meetings?
If it’s June, then that means it’s time for Guelph City Council to sit as a shareholder. The City of Guelph is the sole shareholder of two different businesses, one is Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc, which holds our stake in Alectra Utilities, and the other is Guelph Junction Railway, which owns much of the train track that runs through the Royal City. And these two meetings are their story… for 2023. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the June 25 Shareholder Meetings?”
