RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting Cancelled Due to Lack of Quorum

Sadly, there was no Transit Advisory Committee meeting this month. When the appointed time came, four members of the committee arrived and took their seats, but they ended up one member short. After the requisite 15-minute wait, the meeting was formally cancelled, and all the great reports we were going to get are now lost like tears in the rain, or else delayed until the March meeting. MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for February 20, 2025

Once again the Transit Advisory Committee will get together to talk about bus business in the City of Guelph. On the agenda this month are some pretty vital updates about key transit projects, especially around the issue of fares, and knowing when the bus is coming with near absolute certainty. That’s what we know we’re going to get, but there will also be some known unknowns as well. For right now, let’s look at what we do know… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for February 20, 2025”

RECAP: Transit Boss Says Goodbye at First TAC Meeting of the Year

For the first time in 2025, the members of the Transit Advisory Committee got together to say goodbye. T.A.C. also talked about some changes to various fares and other work coming up in 2025. So let’s dig into the business of busing in this recap of the meeting…! MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for November 21, 2024

There’s been a lot of talk about Guelph Transit lately between the potential transit worker strike cancelled at the last minute and proposed cuts in the 2025 budget, but things will more or less be ordinary business for this meeting of the Transit Advisory Committee. Or perhaps we should say “ordinary for now” because the committee will talk about its potential future along with some of the usual matters. RECAP: Transit Committee Stays the Course as Job Action Looms

It was a relatively brief meeting of the Transit Advisory Committee this month, and that’s in-spite of the rather long shadow being cast by the potential for job action in the next few weeks. There was also some rather sad news about one member of the committee but otherwise it seemed like business as usual as Transit, like every other city department, heads into budget season. To get those and other details, check out the recap below…

MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 17, 2024

This month’s Transit Advisory Committee Meeting will be on the light side, but there might be some interesting developments that might come up in the realm of member feedback or general transit updates. In terms of the one new item, there’s a matter of accessibility and integrating that into the current transit fare system. Mostly though, if you’re just a fan of transit news, this is your monthly appointment. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 17, 2024”

RECAP: Transit Breaks Record for One-Week Ridership, TAC Hears

Last week, Guelph Transit broke the record for the most rides in one week, over 200,000. So if the buses felt more fuller than usual, even by September standards, you were probably right. That’s good transit news, and so is the first three weeks of expanded on-demand Sunday service, which is growing every week apparently. For the rest of the good and mixed news about transit business, consult this recap of September’s Transit Advisory Committee! GUELPH POLITICAST #426 – The Year at Committees So Far…

There’s a lot of work when it comes to the grind of municipal governance and policy development, but it doesn’t always start with city council (though it does often end with them). So on this episode of the podcast we’re going to try and cram six months of work by eight different committees into 30 minutes of audio, from the retirement of the library’s head to the debate over a bus chime to the ongoing issues around housing.
