It was a pretty low-key planning meeting this month at Guelph City Council, and the one bit of friction had nothing to do with the one big planning project that was on the agenda. Yes, parking it always a sore spot in Guelph, but this week it was even a bigger sore spot than usual when the debate came down what was good procedure and what was fast and easy to achieve. This Week at Council: Signs and Apartments, and Two Tied Votes
This month’s planning meeting of city council had three phases. First was the one new development application, which came with some very old arguments against it. Then there was a vote about re-approving a heritage designation, which was swiftly followed by a vote to un-designate. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the May 13, 2025 Meeting?
The planning meeting this month of May will focus on three very different and specific things. First, council will consider yet another appeal of another heritage designation. Then, unlike last month, council will mull over a potential new development. And finally, council will look at some updates to a bylaw that tells you where the signs can all go. This Month at Council Part 2: Service Reviews, Sign Resolution, and Baker Plans
Before summer break, there were some long hours ahead for Guelph City Council. One special meeting reviewed the findings of the service rationalization report, and another special meeting reviewed the Baker District Urban Master Plan. In between, council sorted out the issues with the new sign bylaw and ended the decades long quandary about the Dolime Quarry. Here’s the second council recap for July. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 19 Regular Meeting?
The regular meeting of city council comes one week early this month, but it is not the last meeting before usual summer break. Still, this should be a very busy meeting with a couple of controversial projects held over from committee, plus discussion about a couple of reports pulled from information items filed with council. Social justice, IMPACT, and likely speeding plus the sign bylaw will all be up for discussion.
