This month’s planning meeting, again delayed a week because of a special occasion, will be a pretty big one. It’s not because of the heritage designation or the request for a sign bylaw variance, but because after four years of work the Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw is finally ready for approval. It’s been nearly 30 years since this piece of regulation has been formally updated, and this month, we have arrived at the end. One is about approving a plan for a seniors’ residence in the south end, but the major one concerns a pretty big piece of land. This Week at Council: New Tower Downtown and the Integrity Commissioner
The first planning meeting of the year was a big one, and size did matter. Council discussed the merits and demerits of a redevelopment that could see a 23-storey mixed-use residential building constructed at the corner of Wellington and Wyndham, but a decision on that will come later. In the meantime, the Integrity Commissioner came to town to give council the lowdown on how to avoid conflicts of interest. This Week at Council: Workshops, Assignments and Planning
Council got back to it’s regularly scheduled workload for this December with four meetings in two days. The councillors filled their minds with the ins and outs of planning and budgeting, and then put some that knowledge to the test with the first official planning meeting of the term.
