City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the June 13 Meeting?

This month’s planning meeting of city council isn’t offering anything new, but it is offering something old and something really old. Two big projects are finally coming back to council for a final decision, and two matters concerning heritage including a designation and an unlisting.

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday June 9. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

CLOSED MEETING:

Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Guelph and the Guelph Professional Firefighters Union Local 467 – Because this is a matter of human resources, council will discuss it in camera under Section 239(2) (d) of the Municipal Act relating to “labour relations or employee negotiations.”

20 Cityview Drive North: Removal from Municipal Register of Cultural Heritage Properties Recently discussed at a meeting of Heritage Guelph, this property has three buildings and the only one that’s listed – not designated – on the heritage registry is the barn. Despite the efforts of staff, the exact history of the barn cant be verified, and what can be verified suggests that the current barn was built sometime in the mid-20th century.

49 Norfolk Street: Notice of Intention to Designate – Staff are recommending that this property, which is more commonly know as the Albion, be officially designation as a heritage property under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. As you may recall, the Albion was one of four priority designations that staff want to complete before Bill 23 erases the heritage list in January 2023. Heritage Guelph approved the designation on their end at their April meeting.

Decision Report 103-105 Victoria Road North Proposed Zoning By-law Amendment – This project came to council for its statutory public meeting in September 2021, but there have been some changes to the application since then. The old plan for 44 units of clustered townhouses in six different blocks is now a 32-unit stacked townhouse block fronting Cassino Avenue plus 23 cluster townhouse units for a total of 55 now. A surface parking area interior to the site and a building containing a mail room and 32 bicycle parking spaces has also been added to the plan. Staff are recommending council approval.

Decision Report 1373-1389 Gordon Street OPA and ZBA File OZS22-001 – When this project came to council in March 2022 it was for a nine-storey mixed use apartment building with 98 units, well now it’s 99 units but the building height has been reduced a seven-storey building including the mechanical penthouse. Staff is recommending that the project be approved.
