The Guelph Police Service released the tab for Homecoming 2021, and it comes in at 310 calls for service over a 17-hour period that will ultimately cost the City of Guelph over $30,000 in police time and resources. The price tag, and the fallout, will likely spurn a previously unfinished discussion pre-pandemic about where the financial burden of events from Homecoming will lie. Police Board Follows Mayor’s Lead on Tackling Better Community Relations
Considering the moment, it’s understandable why a lot of eyes were on the Guelph Police Services Board meeting on Thursday. Mayor Cam Guthrie brought a series of motions to this meeting with the hope that they might answer community demands for more transparency and accountability to the community from Guelph Police, and, for the most part, everyone at the meeting agreed that these changes needed to be made. Guelph Police Board Wants U of G to Help Cover Homecoming Policing Costs
After another Homecoming celebration this year that made more news about the after party than it made about the game, the Guelph Police Services Board is worried about the cost of celebrating in the city.
