Guelph Fire Chief Really, Really Wants You to Have a Working Smoke Detector

It’s been a busy week for the Guelph Fire Department with four fires in as many days, and three of them in a nearly 24-hour period at the beginning of the week. With the community concerned, Guelph Fire Chief Brian Arnold was joined by Ontario Fire Marshal Jon Pegg at the site of a fatal fire on Edinburgh Road South with a simple message: For your personal safety, and the safety of the people you live with, have a working smoke detector. Tech Issues Plague Guelph This Weekend

Sometimes the technology just decides to stop working. We’ve all encountered tech issues in our lives, and most of the time they’re easy to solve. Redacted Report on 797 Victoria Notes Ongoing Threat to Life Without Demo

After a lengthy closed meeting debate, and two emergency meetings, city council has finally released the details around the emergency demolition ordered for the old Shortreed Farmhouse at 797 Victoria Road North. The redacted report outlines in specific detail the risk to the property, and the risk to the City of Guelph’s liability without the demolition after several meetings between Guelph Fire and the Grand River Conservation Authority. Police Advice on Hazardous Chemical Leak on Wellington 124

It was a rough day on Wellington Road 124 today with the usual traffic concerns on the main route between Guelph and Cambridge, but even more concerning was a chemical spill from Flow Chem at 6986 Highway 124. According to the CBC, first responders were able to contain the spill, but the road is still closed and will be closed until all relevant agencies clear the scene. PRESS RELEASE – Negotiations Begin Again with Local Firefighters

If you’re thinking to yourself, “Wait a minute, didn’t we just secure a new contract with firefighters a year ago?” you’re wrong. It was actually 10 months ago. But since the agreement was backdated to January 2013, that means that by the time the agreement was reached it was about 60 per cent over. So the time has come to arrange a new contract, and the City of Guelph and the Mayor’s Office has outlined the process.
