In six days, the doors of Guelph’s Consumption and Treatment site will close for the last time. Unless a Charter challenge in an Ontario court succeeds, the Ontario government’s mandate to close a dozen different CTSes and replacement them with new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment, or HART, Hubs. RECAP: Too Many Unanswered Questions About CTS Closure Impact at Social Services

Some questions were answered, but other questions lingered as this month’s meeting of the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee  wrapped up. It wasn’t all bad news, of course. As we do at the end of August, we’re marking Drug Poisoning Awareness Day, and it hasn’t been a great week for the people fighting this issue. Last week, the Ontario government decided that no safe consumption site can be within 200 metres of a school or daycare, including the one at Guelph Community Health Centre. Provincial Changes Mean Guelph’s CTS Will Be Gone By April

The Consumption and Treatment Site (CTS) at Guelph Community Health Centre will have to close by the end of March. This decree comes from the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference today where Minister of Health Sylvia Jones announced that the provincial government is banning supervised drug consumption sites within 200 metres of schools and child care centres. $1.8 Million More Going to Safe Supply and Another Addiction Treatments in Guelph

As local addiction agencies mark Drug Poisoning Awareness Day in the next week, a special delivery came from from the federal government on Tuesday. Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield announced additional funds through Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program (SUAP); $1.8 million that will go to three programs that will ensure support and treatment for people in the Guelph area who are addicted to substances.
