One last meeting before the end of the month as council will be asked to approve the slate of decisions already made at Committee of the Whole, and there will be at least two other matters that require council’s attention. First, some small changes to a prominent Guelph board of directors, and second, council will be asked to approve some money for the development of affordable housing. Money matters will pre-occupy in the third week of October, and in the second of two city council meetings that week, members of the public will be asked for their point of view about updates to the Development Changes Bylaw. That budget process will be different this year as council moves further along the path of establishing a four-year multiyear budget regimen, but before getting into the nuts and bolts, staff will be holding another workshop with council to get their mind set on deciding what’s important, and what’s affordable with this budget. After a lengthy closed meeting debate, and two emergency meetings, city council has finally released the details around the emergency demolition ordered for the old Shortreed Farmhouse at 797 Victoria Road North. The redacted report outlines in specific detail the risk to the property, and the risk to the City of Guelph’s liability without the demolition after several meetings between Guelph Fire and the Grand River Conservation Authority. For the third time in two weeks, Guelph City Council had to deal with matters pertaining to 797 Victoria Street North. On the docket, council had to decide if what they voted for at *last week’s* emergency meeting was really what they voted for and set off a complex and often confusing chain of discussion about procedure and the validity of the meeting’s minutes.
