There will be no senioritis at July’s planning meeting. With an agenda this big, no one is slacking off! Coming up at the last planning meeting before summer break, council will have a slate of new heritage designations to consider, plus a few objections. There will also be a decision about a new project in the west end, an update on the City of Guelph’s efforts to create more affordable housing, and a couple of administrative matters. Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 7, 2025 Meeting?

It’s going be a packed Committee of the Whole meeting for July, the last one before summer break! After a lengthy closed session and a roll call of many accomplished city hall staffers, the members of committee will dig into downtown construction (and reconstruction), the collection of fees from local speeders, more accessibility, and even a proposal to push Guelph as a candidate to host a national sports event. We open up three weeks of double meetings with Committee of the Whole and this one, which is yet another shareholder meeting for Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc, the holding company the City of Guelph uses  to secure it’s four per cent stake in Alectra Utilities. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the June 24 Shareholder Meetings?

If it’s June, then that means it’s time for the annual shareholder meetings of Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc. and Guelph Junction Railway. Guelph City Council is the one and only shareholder of both these corporations and every sixth month of the year they sit in a special meeting to hear the financial information and governance updates from both companies. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the June 24, 2025 Meeting?

June comes to end, at least in terms of council business, with the usual midyear visit from the external auditor. That’s pretty much the one major piece of business for this month’s regular meeting of council, but there will be another crack at the Committee of the Whole agenda, and there will some more actions concerning the filling of a recent council vacancy. The third Tuesday of June is reserved for a special meeting of council, a workshop. The topic this time is one that’s near and dear to some of our hearts: Transit. For years there’s been a project in the works that involves the electrification of the transit fleet, and it’s been a moving target that’s changed a lot over the last five years. After a busy week at council, and then a week off following the May long weekend, council will get back to work with some fairly unusual circumstances. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the May 13, 2025 Meeting?

The planning meeting this month of May will focus on three very different and specific things. First, council will consider yet another appeal of another heritage designation. Then, unlike last month, council will mull over a potential new development. And finally, council will look at some updates to a bylaw that tells you where the signs can all go.
