Heritage Guelph gets back to work promising a busy 2025 after what was definitely a very busy 2024! No major heritage designations this week, or any complicated fights about demolitions at this meeting (we think). There will be a kind of demolition discussion at this month’s meeting though, and there will be some discussion about the workload ahead, and then we will head downtown for another big project! MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for December 17, 2024
The last meeting of the year goes to the Accessibility Advisory Committee. For this one you should expect a lot of wrap up for the work of 2024 and some teeing up for the work of 2025, but the main point of interest might be seeing what happens in this first meeting after a fairly fractious October meeting where members of the AAC laid down the law, and their concerns, about their own autonomy. So let’s check out what’s on the agenda… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for December 17, 2024”
MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for November 25, 2024
The last Guelph Public Library Board of Directors meeting for 2024 will be focused on the future. Mostly. Hopefully, the board has spent the month sitting with the new direction for the Library for the next four years, because this meeting will once and for all determine the future! (…until 2029.) For everything else, please check out the preview for this November meeting of the Library Board. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for November 25, 2024”
MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for November 21, 2024
There’s been a lot of talk about Guelph Transit lately between the potential transit worker strike cancelled at the last minute and proposed cuts in the 2025 budget, but things will more or less be ordinary business for this meeting of the Transit Advisory Committee. Or perhaps we should say “ordinary for now” because the committee will talk about its potential future along with some of the usual matters. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for November 21, 2024”
MEETING PREVIEW: Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee Meeting for November 13, 2024
After a very consequential October meeting of the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee don’t expect things to get anymore chill for November in spite of the cool weather. At this meeting, look for a full scale update about Paramedic Services (or Land Ambulance depending on where you stand in Wellington County), and, in keeping with the season, we will also visit some budget matters. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee Meeting for November 13, 2024”
MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for November 4, 2024
It’s going to be a busy slate for the Heritage Guelph meeting this November with changes, plans, designations, and maybe even a hint of conflict (?). Yes, there are new designations and future designations to consider, as usual, but there’s also the year-long plan to designate as many properties as possible and that massive designation project, the Heritage Conservation District study of the OR Lands. But wait, there’s more… Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for November 4, 2024”

MEETING PREVIEW: Grand River Conservation Membership Meeting for October 25, 2024
October’s meeting of the Grand River Conservation Authority is the usual mixed bag, and the bag will come with a price tag. Budget season is in full bloom (so to speak) with the presentation of the draft budget for 2025, plus there will be follow-ups on the Conservation Areas Strategy and ticketing processes for the Elora Quarry Conservation Area. And since winter is coming, let’s also talk about ice management. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Grand River Conservation Membership Meeting for October 25, 2024”
MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for October 15, 2024
Don’t worry, the October Accessibility Advisory Committee has not been cancelled, it’s just been moved to another day of the week. This special Thursday meeting of the AAC will cover a lot of items under the housing file, from the Public Space Use Bylaw to housing affordability strategies. In other news, the committee will look at transit and then try to agree on a definition for a very important word. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for October 15, 2024”
MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 17, 2024
This month’s Transit Advisory Committee Meeting will be on the light side, but there might be some interesting developments that might come up in the realm of member feedback or general transit updates. In terms of the one new item, there’s a matter of accessibility and integrating that into the current transit fare system. Mostly though, if you’re just a fan of transit news, this is your monthly appointment. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting for October 17, 2024”
