One last ride before summer vacation for the local Board of Health! At the June meeting, there were a number of information reports concerning the inspection of food vendors and childhood health programs, and there was also some discussion about the impacts from the closure of the consumption and treatment site in April. So we heard about all that, plus there was some actual good news on the measles front if you want to check out the recap below. RECAP: JSSLAC Hears That There’s Progress on Fighting Homelessness
It’s not great, it’s not even good, but it is getting better. Along with that information, you can learn more about childcare changes, the 2025 budget and fighting hospital offload delays in this month’s recap! RECAP: Board of Health Hears Area is Now Risk Area for Measles
There was a lot going on at the Board of Health for this month’s meeting, but the thing probably everyone came to hear about was this question: What the heck is going on with measles? Although there was a lot of discussion about various Public Health programs, what you probably heard about from this meeting is the news that the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region is now an at-risk area for measles transmission. Let’s get into it! Continue reading “RECAP: Board of Health Hears Area is Now Risk Area for Measles”
RECAP: Heritage Guelph Approves Two Demos and Nine Designations
Heritage Guelph’s May meeting was fairly brisk, which is interesting because of all the work that ended up getting done. Members of the committee approved almost 10 new designations (one didn’t make the cut… for now), approved – regretfully – two removals from the registry, and heard about a massive project to upgrade road infrastructure in an older part of town. Let’s get into the detail with this month’s Heritage Guelph recap! Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Approves Two Demos and Nine Designations”
RECAP: Heritage Guelph Defers Key Agenda Items Till April
If you rolled up to the virtual meeting of Heritage Guelph this month expecting a fulsome and robust discussion on important matters of heritage within the city were bound to be disappointed because it was over in less than 10 minutes. After barely getting to quorum, the committee deferred the two major pieces of business (which were also deferred from the February meeting), but to see what did get finished, check out the recap. Such as it is… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Defers Key Agenda Items Till April”
RECAP: Board of Health Talks About Measles and Drinking (Not Together)
Given the news earlier this week that a measles cases was detetected in Guelph, it should come as no surprise that this month’s Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Board of Health meeting kicked off with a discussion about the dangers of… drinking! No, wait, that was later in the meeting. Yes, the Board heard about the dangers of measles in our community and being unvaccinated, and the dangers of increased access to alcohol. Continue reading “RECAP: Board of Health Talks About Measles and Drinking (Not Together)”
RECAP: It Was Another Good Year at the Library, Board Hears
There’s always something new at the library, and people seem to like it. There’s was also some internal board changes with new people in new positions, and the board approved a new way of making sure that they stay on task. For everything else, here’s the recap! Continue reading “RECAP: It Was Another Good Year at the Library, Board Hears”
RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting Cancelled Due to Lack of Quorum
Sadly, there was no Transit Advisory Committee meeting this month. When the appointed time came, four members of the committee arrived and took their seats, but they ended up one member short. After the requisite 15-minute wait, the meeting was formally cancelled, and all the great reports we were going to get are now lost like tears in the rain, or else delayed until the March meeting. Continue reading “RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Meeting Cancelled Due to Lack of Quorum”
RECAP: Accessibility Committee Wants Changes to Mobility and Taxi Programs
In a remarkable turn of events, the Accessibility Advisory Committee finished work early in their first meeting of 2025! They still got a lot of work done though. They were consulted about heritage downtown and they had some comments about on-street accessible parking during the patio season, but the meat of the meeting was in the way the City of Guelph currently asks people with disabilities to apply for needed mobility services. Let’s recap! Continue reading “RECAP: Accessibility Committee Wants Changes to Mobility and Taxi Programs”
RECAP: JSSLAC Gets the Point in Time Count and Gets Winter Update
It was a comparatively light agenda at the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee meeting for February on Wednesday, good thing because some in attendance wanted to outrun an incoming winter storm. The primary focus was matters of housing, specifically the state of homelessness in the region. Committee heard about the December report on the winter response plan and the Point in Time Count, and now you can hear about them too with this recap! Continue reading “RECAP: JSSLAC Gets the Point in Time Count and Gets Winter Update”
