This coming Monday is Labour Day, the unofficial end of the summer, and the official start of the real campaign. With everyone back to a regular routine, and in some cases heading back to school, many folks in Guelph being really paying attention for the first time. And speaking of school, we will head to the ward that’s home to the University of Guelph and talk to the ones who want to be the next representatives of Ward 5.

Up first will be Greg Cawsey, a business teacher at John F. Ross CVI who’s going to talk about succeeding two long-time councillors at city hall, the parts of Ward 5 he thinks have been underrepresented in the past, and what his campaign slogan “Empowering your voice” means practically.

We will then talk to Dakota Cherry about wanting to be a role model for young women in politics, why so many young people are getting involved in municipal politics this election, and why her favourite issue, food insecurity, can’t be uncoupled from universal concerns about affordability.

So let’s hear from two more council candidates on this week’s Guelph Politicast!
