There are 145,000 stories in the Royal City, and this is some of them. Looking at a week’s worth of media releases from the Guelph Police Service, there’s a lot going on in our little city crime-wise speaking, so let’s run down some of the charges, issues, and requests for information from the Guelph Police Service over the last seven days.

Assault
A 55-year-old Guelph woman turned herself in to police and was charged with three counts of assault and mischief under $5,000 on Thursday morning. On Monday, a woman walked out of her south-end townhouse complex when she was approached by a woman known to her. A verbal altercation escalated to pushing before the complainant was punched and slapped in the face, causing her glasses to fall off and break.
A 38-year-old Guelph man was arrested for break and enter Wednesday for a break-in last weekend at a business near Stevenson and Speedvale where the owner had arrived to find cash and a bag of power tools missing.
A 21-year-old Guelph man was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats after a woman reported a verbal altercation with a man known to her when he pulled out a knife and held it towards her while uttering a threat.
Break-Ins
On Wednesday evening, officers were called to an address near Wellington and Neeve where a resident reported she had been away for a couple of days and came home to find a basement window open and her PlayStation 5 missing from the living room. Just after 9 am on Monday police were called to the business near Stevenson and Speedvale after the owner had arrived to find cash and a bag of power tools missing. Security video showed a man gaining entry to the business through a back door approximately 3:45 am. He was described as a white man with brown hair and wearing a yellow plaid shirt, jeans, a black backpack, brown shoes and gloves. Just before 7:30 pm last Saturday, police were called to the former Guelph Correctional Centre on York Road after security guards observed two people on camera inside the building. Officers arrived and cleared the building. An insecure entry was located leading to a tunnel which connects to the basement. Officers assisted security in resecuring the entry. Last Saturday a resident near Ironwood and Hilldale reported she had arrived home after being away for several days to find her house ransacked. A rear door had been smashed to gain entry with drawers and cupboards in most rooms left open and items strewn about. Thousands of dollars in jewelry, silverware, cash and identity documents were reported missing. On Friday evening, police were notified of a residential burglary alarm at a home near Downey and Pheasant Run. A broken window was located at the rear of the home. Fraud
A 41-year-old Guelph man has been arrested and charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000 following a lengthy, multi-jurisdictional investigation that dates back to April 2024. He is accused of stealing more than $200,000 from businesses where he was employed. While employed by a Guelph business, the man is alleged to have falsified invoices and demanded payment from customers for outstanding balances related to private and corporate events. The man was terminated after the business discovered the thefts, but he started doing in again at another hospitality business where he is alleged to have accepted deposits for events without completing the bookings. The man was arrested August 18.

Impaired Driving
A 31-year-old Guelph man was charged with impaired driving and several Highway Traffic Act violations early last Saturday. Police were informed of a possible impaired driver near Speedvale and Imperial and found the vehicle as it entered a parking lot. While speaking to the driver officers noted a strong odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment and then he failed a roadside breath test.
Theft
On Tuesday, a woman was been walking near Speedvale and Stevenson when she was approached by another woman, who pushed the victim in the chest and stole her purse. The victim tried to chase the woman, who removed a wallet and discarded the purse and other contents. The victim was not physically injured. Her wallet – with the cash and bank cards missing – was later located on Metcalfe Street. The suspect was described as a white female in her 30s, 5’3” with a heavy build and dark brown hair in a bun. She was wearing a black t-shirt, black pants and black shoes and carrying several duffle bags. Police are trying to identify three women who stole nearly $1,900 worth of bedding and other items from Home Sense in Stone Road Mall at approximately 5 pm on August 6. The three women placed a large amount of bedding, curtains and rugs in their carts and walked out of the store. They were described as:
- 20-25, 5’4”, medium build with brown hair in a bun and wearing a dark brown dress and white shoes
- 20-25, 5’3”, slim build with brown hair in a bun and wearing a black and white dress and pink and white running shoes
- 30-35, 5’6”, medium build with brown hair in a bun, wearing a pink and black dress, black shoes and carrying a black purse

Theft (Auto)
A 35-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, being unlawfully in a dwelling and breaching a probation order on Saturday morning after a patrol near a Gordon Street townhouse complex located a Toyota which had been reported stolen from a south-end business a few days earlier. A man was observed sleeping inside with the keys in his lap and – Surprise! – he was wanted for waking into an Elizabeth Street house and challenging the occupant to a fight earlier this month.
Traffic
A 23-year-old Breslau man was charged with speeding, stunt driving, failing to provide his licence and failing to stop for an emergency vehicle on Thursday morning. A Volkswagen sedan was travelling 105 kilometres per hour in the posted 60 zone near Woodlawn and Michener, and when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued for more than a kilometre before pulling over.
A 19-year-old Arthur man is charged with speeding and stunt driving Thursday afternoon after a member of the Traffic Unit was patrolling on Hanlon Parkway when he clocked a vehicle travelling 134 kilometres per hour in an 80 zone.
Other Notes
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts each of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats, mischief to property and three counts of breaching a probation order Tuesday afternoon. A man was involved in a verbal altercation with children playing outside a west-end apartment building, yelling and using racial slurs. His behaviour attracted the attention of other residents, who came downstairs to separate the man from the children. The man removed a large knife from his pocket and began threatening the witnesses before fleeing into the building. During the investigation officers recovered two knives and a BB gun.
A 29-year-old Guelph man was further charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts each of possessing a weapon contrary to an order and breaching probation on Monday morning. Officers patrolling downtown spotted a man known to be wanted for assault and breaching a probation order and he was placed under arrest. During a search officers located a black BB handgun and bag full of BBs, but the man was bound by several weapons prohibitions.
