RECAP: Too Many Unanswered Questions About CTS Closure Impact at Social Services

Some questions were answered, but other questions lingered as this month’s meeting of the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee  wrapped up. It wasn’t all bad news, of course. There are, it seems, some good things that are going to come out the propose HART HUB,  but the exact impact from the closure of the consumption and treatment site is still hard to know. GUELPH POLITICAST #431 – Space, Supply and Stigma (feat. Jean Hopkins and Leandra Gilbert)

As we do at the end of August, we’re marking Drug Poisoning Awareness Day, and it hasn’t been a great week for the people fighting this issue. Last week, the Ontario government decided that no safe consumption site can be within 200 metres of a school or daycare, including the one at Guelph Community Health Centre. Provincial Changes Mean Guelph’s CTS Will Be Gone By April

The Consumption and Treatment Site (CTS) at Guelph Community Health Centre will have to close by the end of March. This decree comes from the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference today where Minister of Health Sylvia Jones announced that the provincial government is banning supervised drug consumption sites within 200 metres of schools and child care centres. Guelph’s Safe Consumption Site Survives (Six Do Not)

The safe consumption site that operates out of the Guelph Community Health Centre on Wyndham Street downtown is one of 15 sites approved by the Government of Ontario as part of its new comprehensive and connected mental health and addictions treatment system.
