So there’s all that, plus a new Indigenous territorial acknowledgement on this week’s council recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: The Wall and the Race to Zero”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the Meeting on September 26?
It’s been a pretty busy September so far at Guelph City Council, a couple of long summer meetings after almost a month off, so perhaps it’s fitting then that this month will go out like a lamb with a lighter agenda. For the regular meeting this month, council will approve the consent agenda from Committee of the Whole, including the new version of the Territorial Acknowledgement, plus one bit of new business on the heritage file. This Week in Council: Downtown Parking Gets Racked Out
This week, council came back to do the council’s business with an agenda that included Indigenous relations, but the Downtown Parking Master Plan that was the source of the most controversy. How much should maximums be minimized was the primary source of friction, but that might still have to be worked out at the end of the month. Meanwhile, there was a lengthy closed session we know nothing about. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “This Week in Council: Downtown Parking Gets Racked Out”

The events of those meetings cast a shadow over a lot of council business for the rest of the month, and that includes the Committee of the Whole and planning meetings covered here. Continue reading “This Month at Council PART 1: Emergency Meetings, and Demolition Fallout”
LIVE BLOG: City Council Meeting for October 6, 2021
For the third time in two weeks, Guelph City Council had to deal with matters pertaining to 797 Victoria Street North. On the docket, council had to decide if what they voted for at *last week’s* emergency meeting was really what they voted for and set off a complex and often confusing chain of discussion about procedure and the validity of the meeting’s minutes. So how did it all turn out? Check out the link to the video and the meeting recap below. Continue reading “LIVE BLOG: City Council Meeting for October 6, 2021”
This Month at Council: Patios, No Proxies, More Supportive Housing, and Patios(!)
At Guelph city council, March came in like a lion, and it went out like a… slightly smaller lion. Since the weather was (mostly) nice, it was perhaps unsurprising that this summer’s patio program took up so much of the meeting time this month, but there were other matters covered including more planning applications, and the mid-term governance review. Here’s the council recap from March. Continue reading “This Month at Council: Patios, No Proxies, More Supportive Housing, and Patios(!)”
