It’s been a busy few weeks for Heritage Guelph, and this meeting promises to be one of the busiest. On this agenda, there’s some administrative work for the committee, and there are some new heritage designations in the queue for their consideration too. MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for January 15, 2024

RECAP: Heritage Guelph Looks Ahead to 2024!

The last Heritage Guelph meeting of the year did something ironic… It looked to the future. It’s been a very busy 12 months for the local heritage committee, a lot of long simmering designations were scratched off the list, but there’s still a lot of work to do before this time next year when all the properties listed, but not designated, are deleted from the registry due to Bill 23. RECAP: Heritage Guelph Concerned About Moving Old Farmhouse

The day after Thanksgiving there weren’t that many leftovers for the Heritage Guelph committee. It was mostly new business, and the biggest portion of that business was focused on the potential move of an old farmhouse on a south end property that’s ready to be redeveloped. GUELPH POLITICAST #391 – A National Park (If We Can Keep It)

Since it closed in 2000, the Ontario Reformatory, and the 108 hectares that surround it, have been the source of much conversation, optimism and fantasy. We got the Guelph Innovation District Secondary Plan, we’ve got a Heritage Conservation District Study, and now we’ve got a project to turn the area into a national park. RECAP: Heritage Guelph Gets Unsuccessfully Waved Off from Designating Old Farm

It was a very busy day for the Heritage Guelph committee who had a slate of new designations for their consideration, plus the surprise destruction of a heritage feature on the OR Lands. As for those designations, one got deferred, and another was challenged by the property owner’s lawyer, who seemed to suggest that there could be further legal trouble ahead for a really old asset in need of some defending. RECAP: Heritage Guelph Chooses What Heritage Properties They Want to Save (First?)

This month’s Heritage Guelph meeting gained some forward momentum on the heritage planning work plan in the City’s 1,700 designation eligible properties now paired down to an opening line-up of 10 for staff to start with. In other news, the committee sent the heritage designation for 65 Delhi Street to council while also looking at a designation for the Albion, which, during the meeting, was given an all-new nickname it’s apparently had all this time.
