This Week at Council: No Salt Added at Regular Meeting

If you thought last week at Guelph City Council was busy you won’t believe how straightforward everything was this week! At the regular council meeting for September there were some new committee appointments, and there was some appreciation for Guelphites doing great things, but the biggest item had to do with salt, the variety that you use on the road in winter. For all the details, check out the recap below. Continue reading “This Week at Council: No Salt Added at Regular Meeting”

School kids and teachers aren’t the only ones that get a summer vacation. City council, and those that cover them, also get a summer break, at least when it comes to the monthly meeting schedule. We now have a couple of weeks of meetings under our belt since August ended, but for this week’s podcast we’re going back in time to business at council before summer vacation. This Week at Council: Big Nights for Big Projects

It was a packed night, or make that a couple of nights, at Guelph City Council. Two nights, two big planning projects, one in the south end and one in the east end. Both have been hotly anticipated (dreaded?), at least one for many, many years, and while one is still at least theoretical, the other is now moving on to the next phase of development. For all the details, let’s get right into this week’s recap of council business… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Big Nights for Big Projects”

This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun

After a real August recess this year, city council – now whole again – returned to the council chambers for more hijinks starting with something we thought we had already done in July. After an impromptu planning meeting, council took part in the Committee of the Whole meeting where they covered I.T., WHMIS, and stuff that does have initials like the growing scourge of graffiti. Get all the details in this week’s recap! Continue reading “This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun”

Also, look for some community recognitions, and a discussion about road maintenance standards. Let’s look at the details… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 16, 2025 Meeting?”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2025 Meeting?

Let’s call it a planning week. A day following the regularly scheduled planning meeting for this month, we will get an additional planning meeting. A special meeting for a special project, if you will. Remember the Guelph Innovation District Secondary Plan? Well, it’s going to get a workout as the first block plans finally come to council for approval, and in a surprising twist, staff are not offering a ringing endorsement. Let’s get into it… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2025 Meeting?”

Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?

September is here so it’s time for the new, fully staffed city council to get back to work. As usual, the month begins with a Committee of the Whole meeting, and a slate of reports that might be described as technocratic, or perhaps even boring (if you’re being cynical) kick things off. Money matters, staff recognitions, some new affordable housing measures, and a potential new bylaw to tackle graffiti are all on the agenda for the first meeting of fall!
