This Week at Council: More Debate on Public Space, Plus Road Safety
There was a lot going on at this meeting, and some of it had nothing to do with what was on the agenda. For instance, one city councillor was absent because they’re now busy chasing a new gig at a different level of government. In terms of stuff at the meeting, there was a new development around the Public Space Use Bylaw, which caused some controversy despite how little about it was available in the agenda. Welcome to the agenda for the April planning meeting, and for the first time in a couple of months we have a genuine planning proposal for new units. That’s later in the agenda, first, council has approve another whole batch of heritage designations, and then approve two major pieces of policy in the form of getting higher downtown (building-wise speaking) and charging density and development in the area around Stone Road Mall. This Week at Council: It Was a Planning and Trading Meeting
Delayed a week because city council gets March Break too, we finally come to the March planning meeting+. Why “plus”? Because this month’s meeting wasn’t just about planning matters, but about trades wars, or rather it was about how Guelph is ready to fight one. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 25, 2025 Meeting?
The last meeting for March is a recital of the past. Yes, as usual, we will revisit the (almost whole) agenda from this month’s Committee of the Whole meeting, but there’s also new/old controversy with a returning bylaw that caused a lot of hand wringing last year. This Week at Council: Traffic, Containers and Conduct!
There was something for everyone at this month’s Committee of the Whole meeting. If you have concerns about traffic safety in Guelph, or environmental protection in form or less plastic waste then this was a good meeting for you, but if you’re looking for something meaty there was a lot of back and forth about the update to the council Code of Conduct, as well as the new make-up of advisory committee. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the March 18, 2025 Meeting?
City council takes March Break too. After the kids go back to school, council will get back to work with this month’s planning meeting. No specific project is on the agenda for discussion or approval, but there is going to be a lot of discussion about the creation of more housing as staff will talk about all the plans, plus the city-owned property that can help make it happen.
