The Social Services Committee of Wellington County got together again for the first time since July, and a lot of the agenda was taken up by the pressing matters or housing and fighting homelessness. Less than 24 hours after a Guelph City Council meeting dedicated to that subject, there was still somehow lots of new ground to cover, but then there are also the pressures on childcare. Let’s recap this month’s meeting in the Guthrie Room… Continue reading “RECAP: Stacked Meeting Reveals Pressures on Most Social Service Areas”

RECAP: Heritage Guelph Gets Unsuccessfully Waved Off from Designating Old Farm
It was a very busy day for the Heritage Guelph committee who had a slate of new designations for their consideration, plus the surprise destruction of a heritage feature on the OR Lands. As for those designations, one got deferred, and another was challenged by the property owner’s lawyer, who seemed to suggest that there could be further legal trouble ahead for a really old asset in need of some defending. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Gets Unsuccessfully Waved Off from Designating Old Farm”
RECAP: GRCA Members Blaze Through a Laid Back August Agenda
After taking July off for summer vacation, and presumably enjoying the access to the facilities they manage, the Grand River Conservation Authority membership got together to handle some (brief) conservation business. The latest on the new MOUs with the members, a change in the tree purchasing pricing, and the filing of a couple of different reports made up the bulk of the agenda so let’s recap… Continue reading “RECAP: GRCA Members Blaze Through a Laid Back August Agenda”
RECAP: The AAC Makes Progress on Trails, Elections and More
There are no Augusts off for the Accessibility Advisory Committee who took care of a lot of business at this month’s meeting. Much of that work had to do with outdoor amenities like a new splash made, new trails, and increasing accessibility to trails by shaving down curbs. Also, the committee looked at accessibility improvement changes to the Riverside Park bandshell area and how best to have an accessible election in 2026. Here’s the recap! RECAP: Heritage Guelph Digs Into Next Phase of OR Land District Plan
For a while it looked like there wasn’t going to be an August Heritage Guelph meeting, and then there was! There was one item on this agenda, but if you’ve enjoyed a walk on the old Ontario Reformatory Lands this summer, then you might be interested to know that the subject of this meeting was the heritage conservation district plan for the OR Lands. Where the work is now, and where it’s going next, was the one subject of this special summer meeting! Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Digs Into Next Phase of OR Land District Plan”
RECAP: Committee of Adjustment Gets Stuck on Controversial Separation
It’s August, but summer doesn’t wait for decisions on minor variance applications. There were nine different projects on the agenda for this month’s meeting, and most of them were pretty straightforward with no real concerns from staff, but there were a few controversial applications, and there was one that was particularly problematic for the committee. Let’s recap this August meeting… Continue reading “RECAP: Committee of Adjustment Gets Stuck on Controversial Separation”
RECAP: Social Services Committee Approves 65 Delhi Tender
This month’s meeting of the Wellington County Social Services Committee required a field trip up the road to Aboyne. At the Wellington County Museum and Archive, the committee met for an unexpected – and brief – July get together to discuss one topic, but it was a pretty important one given the need to progress on a new transitional housing project that’s already been two long years in the making. So how did it go? Here’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Social Services Committee Approves 65 Delhi Tender”
RECAP: Police Board Talks About Capital Budget and Noisy Cars Before Summer Break
The July meeting of the Guelph Police Services Board might have taken place in summer, but it was already thinking about fall. The big item at this month’s meeting was about the capital budget for the next four-year multi-year budget and the capital forecast for the next decade. You’ll have to wait for the fall to get the final numbers, but for now you can also get the latest about downtown officers, and the noisy vehicle paradox. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Police Board Talks About Capital Budget and Noisy Cars Before Summer Break”
RECAP: Committee of Adjustment Challenged By One Tree
Everything was going pretty smoothly at this month’s Committee of Adjustment meeting until a very old black walnut tree was threatened by the severance of a property in the west end. Then the committee was basically ground to a halt as the members tried to figure out what to do. How did that situation resolve itself? You will have to consult the recap to see how that vote went, and how the vote went on the 10 other applications… Continue reading “RECAP: Committee of Adjustment Challenged By One Tree”
RECAP: Heritage Guelph Preps New Designations for Fall
Summer vacation started later than usual for Heritage Guelph who held their July meeting Monday with an agenda featuring three projects. Before taking a mid-summer break, the committee sent another heritage designation to council for their consideration, and heard about two more potential designations now warming up in the queue. We probably won’t hear any more about any of those till September, but for now, here’s the recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Preps New Designations for Fall”
