RECAP: Police Chief and Staff Tell Board Investments are Paying Off

When you invest in the police, you get a return on that investment in increased community safety. To anyone watching Thursday’s Guelph Police Services Board meeting that was the message that Chief Gord Cobey and his staff wanted to send as they look forward to this year’s budget confirmation process and look back at the money spent so far. So there was a lot of money talk, and a few special guests too, but if you missed the meeting, get all the details below… Continue reading “RECAP: Police Chief and Staff Tell Board Investments are Paying Off”

The first full meeting of the all-new, not-so-different Heritage Advisory Committee got down to business, but only with two new designations. RECAP: The AAC Attempts to Rebuild with First Meeting of New Committee

When we last left the Accessibility Advisory Committee in April, there was no more Accessibility Advisory Committee. In the middle of the meeting, the majority of members resigned in protest after feeling that that they were not getting the requisite autonomy they needed from the City. Now, a new committee will try and rebuild, not just under the new framework, but under the controversy stirred by their predecessors. So how’s it going so far? Continue reading “RECAP: The AAC Attempts to Rebuild with First Meeting of New Committee”

RECAP: County Staff Tested on Housing Momentum at JSSLAC Meeting

The June meeting of the Joint Social Services and Land Ambulance Committee Meeting was stacked. Many, many reports were delivered to the committee especially in the realm of updates about social housing and paramedic services planning. There was some friction here as Guelph councillors expressed frustration with a lack of momentum on housing, while Wellington councillors want more expanded paramedic services, so let’s dig into the recap for more!

RECAP: New Heritage Advisory Committee Gets Oriented

For the first time, the Heritage Advisory Committee met. Yes, there are some old faces from the old Heritage Guelph days (which was one month ago), but there were also some new ones. In this initial meeting not a lot of actual heritage protection got done, but there was a lot of expectation setting and discussion about what the powers of this slightly rejiggered heritage committee can do. Plus, there was some vice-chair election drama! Check out the recap. Continue reading “RECAP: New Heritage Advisory Committee Gets Oriented”

RECAP: Board of Health Talks Inspections and CTS Closure Impacts

One last ride before summer vacation for the local Board of Health! So we heard about all that, plus there was some actual good news on the measles front if you want to check out the recap below. RECAP: JSSLAC Hears That There’s Progress on Fighting Homelessness

It’s not great, it’s not even good, but it is getting better. Along with that information, you can learn more about childcare changes, the 2025 budget and fighting hospital offload delays in this month’s recap! RECAP: Board of Health Hears Area is Now Risk Area for Measles

There was a lot going on at the Board of Health for this month’s meeting, but the thing probably everyone came to hear about was this question: What the heck is going on with measles? Although there was a lot of discussion about various Public Health programs, what you probably heard about from this meeting is the news that the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region is now an at-risk area for measles transmission. Let’s get into it! Continue reading “RECAP: Board of Health Hears Area is Now Risk Area for Measles”

RECAP: Heritage Guelph Approves Two Demos and Nine Designations

Heritage Guelph’s May meeting was fairly brisk, which is interesting because of all the work that ended up getting done. Members of the committee approved almost 10 new designations (one didn’t make the cut… for now), approved – regretfully – two removals from the registry, and heard about a massive project to upgrade road infrastructure in an older part of town. Let’s get into the detail with this month’s Heritage Guelph recap! Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Approves Two Demos and Nine Designations”

RECAP: Heritage Guelph Defers Key Agenda Items Till April

If you rolled up to the virtual meeting of Heritage Guelph this month expecting a fulsome and robust discussion on important matters of heritage within the city were bound to be disappointed because it was over in less than 10 minutes. After barely getting to quorum, the committee deferred the two major pieces of business (which were also deferred from the February meeting), but to see what did get finished, check out the recap. Such as it is… Continue reading “RECAP: Heritage Guelph Defers Key Agenda Items Till April”
