City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the May 28 Meeting?

Once again, we’ve come to the end of the month after a very busy slate of meetings. At this regular meeting, council will be asked to have a last word about internet voting, the 2023 financials, the plan to send the tiny home community concept to Wellington County’s Joint Social Service Committee, and a couple of other administrative items. And, in new business, new board appointments for civilians and councillors!

NOTE #1: Delegates will be able to appear at this meeting in-person or via tele-presense but you do have to register with the clerks office before 10 am on Friday May 24. You can also submit written delegations and correspondences for agenda items.

NOTE #2: In addition to meeting in-person, this meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of Guelph’s website here.

CLOSED MEETING:

May 2024 Public Appointments to Advisory Committees of Council – As this involves “personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees”, it will be talked about in closed under Section 239(2)(b) of the Municipal Act. The appointments themselves will be formally approved in open session.

May 2024 Public Appointments to Advisory Committees of Council – In order to ensure quorum on both Heritage Guelph and the Waste Resource Innovation Centre Public Liaison Advisory committee, council needs to make a couple of appointments in spite of the current pause on recruitment due to the redesign of Advisory Committees of Council (ACOCs). The staff report doesn’t note how many appointments will be made.

2024-2026 Council Appointment to the Downtown Guelph Business Association Board of Directors – Rodrigo Goller has resigned from the DGBA, so he needs someone else from council to succeed him. The representative will have to be from either Goller’s Ward 2 colleague Councillor Carly Klassen, or one of the Ward 3 reps.

Consent Agenda items from the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 7 and May 15. (Items can be pulled by a councillor seeking additional information, otherwise all items will be voted on as a slate without further debate.)

  • 2026 Municipal Election Alternative Voting Methods and Accessible Voting Service Enhancements
  • Ontario Health – Multi-Sector Service Accountability Agreement, Declaration of Compliance
  • Court Services: Transfer of Part III and Part IX Prosecutions under the Provincial Offences Act to the City of Guelph and implementation of Administrative Penalty System for Parking

  • 2023 Year-end Operating Budget Monitoring Report and Surplus Allocation and Deficit Funding
