This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun

After a real August recess this year, city council – now whole again – returned to the council chambers for more hijinks starting with something we thought we had already done in July. After an impromptu planning meeting, council took part in the Committee of the Whole meeting where they covered I.T., WHMIS, and stuff that does have initials like the growing scourge of graffiti. Get all the details in this week’s recap! Continue reading “This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun”

RECAP: City Council Meeting for September 3, 2025

Before yesterday’s Committee of the Whole, we had a city council rerun. Sort of. Addressing a procedural snafu concerning a planning project that came to council back in July, we had to go through it all over again. Was there the same result? You can click here for the amended agenda from City Hall, and you can click here for the Politico preview, and for the full recap of the meeting, check out the thread below…

Let’s call it a planning week. A day following the regularly scheduled planning meeting for this month, we will get an additional planning meeting. A special meeting for a special project, if you will. Remember the Guelph Innovation District Secondary Plan? Well, it’s going to get a workout as the first block plans finally come to council for approval, and in a surprising twist, staff are not offering a ringing endorsement. Let’s get into it… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2025 Meeting?”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 9, 2025 Meeting?

The first planning meeting of the fall has an application for more units than have been approved all year so far, but will council be interested in chasing them given the cost? That will be one of the questions councillors will tackle in this meeting as they hold a statutory meeting on this massive new project. In terms of small moves, look out for an update to everyone’s favourite planning bylaw, and something that will be discussed in closed… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 9, 2025 Meeting?”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?

Time to get back to work! For the first time in a couple of years, we actually had a whole month off in August, but now the time has come to return to the council chambers and see what trouble we can get into. So to speak. Details below. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?”

Last, we catch-up on the report to council about the progress of the City’s Strategic Planning initiatives. Let’s recap…. There will be no senioritis at July’s planning meeting. With an agenda this big, no one is slacking off! This Week at Council: The Princess Auto Diaries

At June’s planning meeting, a lot of ground was covered but there were two primary modes. First, there were a lot of heritage files needing some work, including the latest heritage conservation district and a couple of individual designations that were unexpectely controversial. And then there was the Princess Auto file, an interesting confluence of confusing planning rules that nearly scuttled the future Guelph location of that chain. Here’s the recap!
