Tuesday marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, and it’s the 33rd anniversary of what’s typically referred to as the Montreal Massacre. Every two-and-a-half days in Canada, a woman or girl is killed, and that’s a “persistently stable” rate of murder. That means it hasn’t changed since the University of Guelph’s Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability (CFOJA) started monitoring the situation three years ago. In their third annual report, the CFOJA noted that despite the pandemic, or because of it, femicide rates remain unchanged in our country.
