City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 11, 2025 Planning Meeting?
This month’s planning meeting features no new developments, but it does lay the potential ground work for future developments. Coming up at this meeting is the first phase of how high we can go downtown, and another new community improvement plan. We will also hear about two objections to two different heritage designations, and, for a change of pace, we will talk about trains (on the same night as the GJR shareholder meeting)! City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 11, 2025 Shareholder Meetings?
A shareholder meeting? In February? Has the world gone topsy-turvy?! Not really. So let’s get into all of that with this week’s recap! Continue reading “This Week at Council: Community Permits and One Big Development”

This Week at Council: Back to Work!
After a long winter’s break, Guelph city council got back to business with two meetings this past week, one was entirely closed to the public but deeply impactful and the other was Committee of the Whole where some administrative stuff happened. Not irrelevant, that “stuff” included a co-ordinated plan to petition upper levels of government about the issues that matter to Guelph. But for now, what matters is this recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Back to Work!”

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the January 14, 2025 Meeting?
You will never really see the first Guelph city council meeting of the year… Before Committee of the Whole, there’s going to be a special meeting of council where the horseshoe will meet entirely in-camera on one single topic. Why this special post about a meeting no one will see? Well, there’s some fairly important background on the topic you should keep in mind, and there might be some news about its future needing some context. This Week at Council: The Epic Season Finale!
Two epic meetings in less than 24 hours! This is how the council year ended with a slate of controversial items from changes to planning policy to statements of intent from council. First, at the planning meeting, there was a last ditch effort to save the historic greenhouse at the University of Guelph and at the regular meeting on Wednesday, some councillor looked to dissent from the mayor’s public statements. All that and more on this last recap of the year! Continue reading “This Week at Council: The Epic Season Finale!”
