Do you like parks? Do you like playgrounds? Who doesn’t? And I know you kids who read this blog do. So the City of Guelph is looking for feedback concerning a new playground equipment being installed in four local parks. I don’t have any kids, so I really have no skin in the game, but what I will say is that if it were me offering my input, I would lean more towards the sandlots and metal bars of my own playground days. Hey, it may not have been as safe, and I knocked out my two front teeth on a see-saw when I was five, but I survived. Guelph Citizen Digs Into Campaign Expenses

Doing their due diligence on the money front from last fall’s Municipal Election, Andy Best at the Guelph Citizen posted a breakdown of how much the current members of council spent in order to win their seats. For council candidates, the spending limit is between $16 to $18,000 depending on the ward they’re running in, while there’s a $82,000 limit for mayor. For the most part, the candidates didn’t get near their spending limits, but the numbers, as pointed out by the Citizen, do show some interesting trends. PRESS RELEASE – Immigration Connection Celebrates Fifth Year

Guelph Wellington Local Immigration Partnership will once again be hosting its annual Immigration Connection event a week from today at the Hanlon Convention Centre. Amongst the questions you will have is where is the Hanlon Convention Centre, because not a week goes by that someone doesn’t stop at the front desk of the hotel I work at wondering where it is. (It’s in the plaza at the corner of Woodlawn and the Hanlon. The same one as the Good Will, around the corner where the Three Star Cinema used to be.) PRESS RELEASE – City Assists As Brutal Winter Takes Toll on Pipes

For may home and business owners, this has been a winter of discontent as they’ve dealt with burst and frozen pipes thanks to the record low temperatures. As we head out the other side of of the season, it seems that the situation is dire for nearly 150 households that have no access to water, and there’s an emergency bit of construction that has to be performed downtown tomorrow. So it’s not over yet! Winter that is. The City of Guelph wants to put you notice that even though its March, we still have a long way to go. PRESS RELEASE – City Announces New Water Rates for 2015

As per the recently approved changes by Guelph City Council, there will be changes to the water rates begining on March 1. The bad news is, it’s going up; the good news though is that the increase is only coming to come out to less than $3 per month. PRESS RELEASE – Neighbourhood Gets to Keep Skating Rink

It’s like David versus Goliath, only this time, David won! Earlier today, the City of Guelph’s Chief Administrative Officer Ann Pappert announced that an agreement has been reached with a group neighbours in Pine Ridge to keep a less than officially sanctioned local skating rink. The rink is technically on city land between two subdivisions in the south end, but all that kids having fun and enjoying exercise got on someone’s nerve, and they made some noise about it to city hall. Reacting the quickly, the city has announced that they’ve reach a short term solution that should make everyone in the area happy, allowing the kids to keep skating as the city keeps working toward some new permanent rules regarding the situation. City Warns of Door-to-Door Water Treatment Scammers

It’s fall and the election is full swing, but the fall also seems to bring with it new opportunity for scammers and ne’er-do-wells looking to swindle hard working Guelphites out of a few bucks. The City of Guelph sent out a warning yesterday that the old water treatment system fraud is back in town going door-to-door in an attempt to bamboozle Royal City citizens. If you are approached, and you think there’s something fishy about the offer, they’re advising you to get in touch with Guelph Police. The Guelph Ballot for the 2014 Municipal Election
