What’s on the agenda for the last planning meeting of the year? Housing, obviously. No new projects are being proposed at this meeting, but changes that might create more housing in the future will be discussed and debated like changes to the program that develops Additional Dwelling Units or ADUs, and a potential plan to allow five units as-of-right on select properties in Guelph. It was another three-pack of meetings at city council this week with two meetings where council sat as a shareholder of corporations owned by the City of Guelph, and then there was the monthly planning meeting. This month’s planning meeting features no new developments, but it does lay the potential ground work for future developments. Coming up at this meeting is the first phase of how high we can go downtown, and another new community improvement plan. We will also hear about two objections to two different heritage designations, and, for a change of pace, we will talk about trains (on the same night as the GJR shareholder meeting)! It’s a packed agenda for this November planning meeting, covering a lot of bases and requiring some pretty big decisions. Whether your jam is development charges, heritage protection, affordable housing, or student residences, there is something on this agenda for everyone and it is surely going to generate a big number of delegations.
